Oh yee of little imagination! Sometimes you must improvise....I can tell you that it can be done in a '62 Corvette, which have surprisingly easy to remove shift levers (A friend told me that.....).
I will say that the earlier 911s were much easier.......

Also easier in convertible Porsches....
