Default My Application to HWFMR

Dear HWFMR Admission Committee:

I am not sure to be worthy of consideration, but I thought I would present credentials and differentiators with the intent of earning admission to HWFMR or, at a minimum, entertain the readership of this great Rennlist board.

- I am French Canadian and my accent tells (probably why people look at me funny when I tell them that I am from Chicago...)

- The beaver is not my favorite animal, but Molson export is my favorite beer

- Believe it or not, it is my wife who got me into Porsches, track days, and now club racing (proof that reverse psychology does work)

- 3 Club race weekends under my belt

- Being an excitable over-eager rookie in Atlanta, I did not see the checkered flag at the end of the Sprint, passed 3 cars after the start finish line, then spun, and was black flagged for it (wouldn’t this alone suffice to be considered a worthy candidate?)

- X is off the car, but gee do I still feel and act like a rookie

- Doing my very best to stay out of trouble but…I am now known for a brain freeze that almost caused me to clean out Doug Crossman in Canada corner last weekend. (Doug: I will pay for the headlight cover if you give me back the stone (boulder?) that went through it and lodged itself in the headlight assembly)

- Doug sorry again and thanks for the advice

- My car is the color of a turtle

- At turn 14 last weekend at Road America, I behaved like a sea turtle: I periodically spent time in the sand.

Not sure if the above will help me make the cut, but hey, you get nothing if you do not try.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Fred

Uh, were you actually trying to win a race? Think carefully before responding

That is a good question. But the answer is no. I was trying to minimize the number of laps-behind I was compared to the race leader. 3 to 5 laps back is alright.

Oui oui, je suis quebecois. De la Molson a Sebring pour Food Angel et Dr. Jupeman (en echange pour des biscuits a 7 etages), et tous les autres. Je suis fou, en effet.

Yes yes, I am Quebecer. At Sebring, I will bring Molson to you and Dr. Jupeman (in exchange for 7-layer cookies) and all others interested. I am a little crazy indeed.

Unfortunately, I do not travel to Sebring avec le Docteur, because I work at a school, and they're pesky about me taking holidays during the school year. (Something about getting the whole summer off, and two weeks for Christmas and Spring Break...I don't know. They're really lame that way.)

However, I have been known to pack des biscuits for DrJupeman to share at the track, so I will try to remember to send some to Sebring. I'm sure he would enjoy the beer!

Am I the only one who finds it amusing that the Canadian tried to use James Bond-like tactics to delay his competitors in Canada Corner?

Just call in sick! I used to be sick all the time in school, especially on beautiful mild winter days when skiing is best...

I would rather call in well. Might as well waste the day at work when you are not feeling well!

That is so true. Especially given that when you start a work day in a "well" condition, you are bound to end it in a "sick" condition. I never looked at it this way, but this is life changing stuff. I just have to find a way to articulate "well" and "taking time off" together to my management.

You don't find wisdom like that on other race teams...

I'm thinking there might be some issues concerning his speed when piloting a vehicle. At least judging by his avatar.

A few words to the teammates as they consider this application:

I've raced with Fred a few times now.

He obviously loves challenges.

He is working hard to be slow despite the fact that he is a very talented drover.

He just bought a very fast car, Michael Iappaluccio's old G 911. To try to be slow, he even raced it as an F car at Road America.

Despite his best efforts he managed to qualify 4th for the Enduro and 5th for the Sprint. If it wasn't for his sheer determination, he would have qualified higher.

As I recall, he worked hard to hinder his speed by using the green part more than once in various corners.

Feel free to discuss...

Fred-Hell no you can't have the stone back--I've already had it bronzed.
You're hard on yourself--I like that about you.
Your already fast, now you just need more seat time so you can combine speed, consistency, and racecraft.

Damn, Doug is still so mad about the headlight thing that he is trying to sink your app!

Bronzed? I want it back even more!
