Wow, Jo, you ARE fortunate! I dread (sort of) the inevitable move to Florida . . . in the panhandle, there aren't many tracks nearby at all. I think the closest is Barber -- but I heard the folks who work there aren't very friendly. I guess I could always go hang out with Jerry at the GA tracks.

For someone who has never lived in Georgia you have a lot of cracks about our food. I got your boiled nuts right here.

Bonni you would love Road Atlanta and Barber. Roebling is close to the panhandle as well. It isn't all that technical but it is a fun track and the SCCA owns it. That is where I did SCCA drivers school.

Hey now, I wasn't making any cracks about food in your part of the country. I happen to love boiled peanuts. I only know about Southern cooking from all the time I have spent in Florida -- it's practically my second home I'm out there so much. This year so far I've already been there two months total, and will be going for another three-week stint mid-September.

It's good to know that there are more tracks in the area than I initially thought. I've already been to Sebring Homestead -- a LONG haul from the Pensacola area, for sure! Barber is only about a two hour haul at most, I'm pretty sure. Atlanta is about .. . mmm . . . I think four hours? Never been there, so not sure. Hopefully I'll get to meet you one of these days. And bring boiled peanuts.

Closet 'sanctioned' trackis 7 hours (Spokane). Next is Miller at about 8 hours.

As much as I love the track, living in Montna outweighs evrything else.

Whoe needs boiled peanuts when you've got rocky mountian oysters?

Cooley - are you ever convincing Marry to set up shop in MT?

Miller's about 5.5 from me.

Road America is 23 hours. I'll be there next weekend.

I agree 968, the mountains do have their own rewards.
Plus the Targhee Hillclimb is only 40 minutes away. But I'll be watching our teammate, MRW, walk his daughter down a church aisle that day. Maybe next year with the 993 Coupe.

Bonni, I actually hate boiled peanuts.

If your gonna be down in mid Sept. you should come over to Roebling. Some friends and I are doing a DE there with the Florida Crown Region PCA on Sept. 15/16. It is only $200 for the weekend so it is a great deal.

Oh and Atlanta is about a 5 hour drive from Fort Walton Beach area. I believe that is close to Navarre.

Forget the boiled nuts, get some Vidalias!

Fort Walton Beach. Many moons ago, it was the first stop for some R&R after Ranger School At Fort Benning. Now THERE was some serious party time!

Then there is Panama City Beach aka Redneck Riviera.
True story.
Some friends and I (many moons ago as Bull says) were driving the strip in Panama City during spring break in bumper to bumper traffic both directions. Everyone has their car stereos up loud including us.
Some guys in a beat up old Camaro passing us asked what radio station we were playing. We told him and
his response was " I don't believe this here Alabama radio picks up these Florida stations."
The sad thing is I think he was serious.

Ft Walton a party town? Woah. Are you sure you weren't hanging out in Destin? And yes, FWB is only about 20 miles (give or take -- never clocked it) from Navarre.

I won't be in town for the RR PCA event, Jerry. I don't get there until the 23rd (Wednesday). I have a track event here on the 14th, so there would be no way I could get there in time and actually keep my eyes open.

We went through PCB on the way to San Blas a while back. San Blas doesn't have much to offer except a retired military testing site (USAF) and a very quiet beach that hasn't been dredged like most beaches on the coastal areas. If you're into collecting seashells, San Blas has the biggest clams I've ever seen! We're talking bigger than your hand easy! Oh, and there's a really 'dead' Burger King there. Lol.

Oh, brother. That was my sarcastic point.

Let's please not over-moderate this place.

And here I thought you'd think it was funny. Didn't you see the "reason for editing"? <sigh>

I guess you would have had to have been there. A group of guys just out of accelerated Ranger Training, where the only distraction had been seeing who could collect the most snake venom in a cap held upside down in front of snakes found near camp, who knew there next stop isn't going to be Disney Land!
