Back in my day, the first try of scotch was totally dependent on what one found in their Father's liquer cabinet.
So, I have a long aquiantence with some of the older Chivas products, but I like many others, including most anything TD brings to the deck at VIR!

I agree about the Wild Turkey comparison. I never understood, being as we were well-to-do, why he'd choose rot gut over something that actually tasted good. But he liked the junk. I coudn't (and still can't) even stand the smell of it. It smelled more like a sour mash (i.e., Jack Daniels) than a bourbon. I dunno much about whiskey (other than I love Crown Royal), but I know what I don't like, and that Wild Turkey is at the top of the list (in a close tie with store brands).

Back when I was in the service and we had no money we couldn't even afford Jack Daniels. There was a really fine brand called Evan Williams. The hangovers I got from that stuff were nasty and it would also make my stomach burn the next day. I can't even stand the smell of the stuff now.
Some of the stuff we drank make me laugh now. There was some guys who drank this stuff called Wild Irish Rose. It was a cheap wine. It's nickname was the Brick.
There were two reasons for that.
1. The bottle was in the shape and color of a brick.
2. The next morning you thought your head got hit with one.

I've always been of the 'if you can't afford to buy good booze, you shouldn't be drinking' crowd. I have turned down cheap booze several times. I'd rather just go without. That's just one more thing that's great about getting older - you make more money! Oh wait, Bob already covered that in his signature.

My dad LOVES scotch. He keeps it at my house. It's not so much for me.

I've never had Dimple Pinch, but I have had quite a few single malts over the years. Before I became a Martini convert, scotch was my liquor of choice.
