I'm surprised that Porsche hasn't sent a PSA out advising against the use of knock off straps at the risk of breaking them when trying to exit the car - which would make for an interesting scene in the parking lot for sure.

Thank You Carholic!!!!
I installed my red door pulls this weekend. Amazing write-up and directions. My results are below.
I have some tips to help others.
1. The Torx sizes are T20 and T30
2. The grease on the door pull cable can get everywhere. Even if you think you wiped it off your hands it is still there. Wash your hands if you get the grease on them.
3. I used a leather punch to put the holes in the strap. It didn't work as well as I would have liked so I added some heat from my torch.

Thanks CarAholic for posting this DIY. Would have never attempted this without that guidance. It did turn out to be easier than I imagined it would be. Thought I'd post a pic of the inner door without the door panel attached. As others have mentioned, the door handle assembly is packed with some grease at the point where the door release cable attaches (with the white plastic end shown in the middle of the inner door) and it is hard to avoid getting it on your hands. Other than that, a simple install. Glad to have my previous black door straps replaced by red ones to match my seat belts.

Great DIY write up! I would love to see more DIY threads like this. It definitely motivates members to their hands dirty. I was searching the forums for shop manuals/torque specs and found that info lacking. As a DIY'er, it would be great if there was a thread with the basic torque specs for the GT4.

Thank you for this. I just ordered a couple lengths of blue to see which matches best. I asked my dealer yesterday for a price for one strap so I could copy it (before I saw this thread). It was over $400 for one strap!

Anyone looking for practically brand new assemblies in RED (the straps with the plastic assemblies) I have a set in the classifieds. Used for 2 months and in mint condition.
