Default The LWB vs Sofa Thread

As it seems that we cant help ourselves (myself included) from arguing over Sofas vs LWBs in every second thread, I thought we should have a dedicated thread where we can thrash it out, without cluttering all the other threads.

Let me kick it off by declaring my allegiance to......

TEAM SOFA BABY!!!!!

Where's that popcorn smiley....

This will likely turnout worse than an oil thread.

My vote is for LWB's, by far the best sport seats I have experienced as far as comfort and support during lateral acceleration.

I am considering building a LWBS factory. Anyone else want to invest with me?

All this madness is from the simple fact that a lot of people wanted LWBS but were forced to take a car with something else. I feel for them. As far as what seat is better that argument is like PDK vs Manual no winners just opinions...Strong opinions.

I am going to the DMV tomorrow to get my custom tag...LWBS.....

We need this to be the 1st sticky on the GT4 page. Every time somebody starts the OT LWBS argument we can direct them here. I will admit I am an offender of OT LWBS postings.

Have sofas and honestly they are great on the street and the track. The elitist in me still lusts the LWBS! Probably won't upgrade to LWBS but would consider Sparco etc.

Should have made this a poll too. I have the sofas, they do everything for me I need currently. Will change to dedicated buckets down the road.

- Either option, chose sofas
- Either option, chose LWBs
- No option, car is too awesome to pass on w/o LWBs
- Passed on car, LWBs for life
- Delayed car, lucky SOB w/ LWBs

- No car, just hear to fan flames in LWBs debates (either side)

This is right up there with manual vs. PDK. There is no right answer.

For me, 2nd GT car with LWB. This car at it's core is dual use. The seat matches that purpose well and is comfortable enough for ME even with a destroyed L5 disk. I've done 7+ hr drives in my 997 LWB's and while not the absolute most comfortable seat, it is just fine. I'm happy to give up a little comfort for utility.

Ok - the merits of both options as I see them:

LWBs:
- Look better
- Offer better lateral support (if you are the right body size)
- Allows fitment of the clubsport option (or 3rd party harness)
- Lighter

Sofas:
- Better padding
- More adjustable to fit different body shapes - bolsters / lumbar / seat length (I'm talking about the 18 ways)
- Can adjust backrest angle
- Can fold down to access the area behind them
- Easier to get in and out of
- Cheaper

Having had buckets in a previous car (RS4) - the easier to get in and out of was the tipping point for me. I got tired of climbing over the bolster without rubbing it with the studs on my jeans.

The last version of the LWB's (GT2 Seats) folded forward to allow access to the area behind them. Not a big deal in the 987/981 but definitely a plus for the 911.

It's odd that there are so many arguments about this topic, as if a choice that one individual makes has to be the right choice for everyone else.

The LWBs are very comfortable for some, tolerable for others, and very uncomfortable for others, depending on body shape, whether seat recline/lumbar support/ample padding is important, how many herniated discs one has, etc. It's crazy to me when I read posters arguing about whether or not the seats are comfortable. Relative comfort is clearly user-specific so everyone is right on this topic, regardless of their opinion.

I also think it's unfortunate when those with LWBs pass judgment on those who didn't get them by using terms like "epic fail" on car specs that don't include them. I don't personally like the look of white GT4s, but it's the most popular color so there are certainly lots of people who prefer it, which is obviously fine. I wouldn't go around telling someone with a white GT4 that their color choice is an epic fail. Who made me the color police or the seat police, and why would my opinion matter anyway?

Let's just all agree that however we spec'ed our individual cars with our hard earned $100K was just fine and not argue about who is right or wrong about something that is so subjective and user-specific.
