718 GT4?

Ignoring the double negative, what does that have to do with whether it's possible or not? My comment had nothing to do with salability. Though, strangely, there seems to be overwhelming demand for the GT2RS, so somebody seems to like turbos...

Which would make it the most powerful production 4 cylinder turbo engine in the world

I know your comment has nothing to do with salability. IMO 4cyl turbo will not happened in GT4 and that's just my opinion. Yes people buy GT2's and 911 turbos but they are in different league.

Most potent Cayman to retain naturally aspirated engine
Motor Trends says:
first headline to say it in a statement instead of as a question... the article goes on the say that it "should" have a naturally aspirated engine. Perhaps a way to keep true to the Porsche imposed info embargo.

I think you've made the best case yet Nev. After looking at that line up of junior varsity players, ain't no way GT4 gets a 4 cylinder turbo!!!

But if you assume the frame structure isn't in the way I don't see why they can't fit that turbo six in there with plumbing modification.
I just can't reason myself into believing that Porsche would put their best NA engine from the GT3 in a cheaper regular 718 GT4. It doesn't make sense. If a GT4 RS materializes then maybe it makes sense.

You might be right, but...
Today they're saying the next M2 will have a detuned M4's engine!
Here is my conspiracy theory: The test mules & pics are purposely leaked by porsche. This is why we haven't seen a video with engine sound yet.
I'm very convinced it's flat four turbo or turbo six. There is no way this is the 4.0L from the GT3. It makes no sense for porsche to take the engine from your halo track cars (GT3 and GT3RS) then put it in a 718 for cheaper. You're then devaluing that engine.
It's the same reason the M2/M4 don't have the same engine. The same reason the first gen GT4 didn't have a GT3 engine.

,All pure guesswork at this point. One could make solid arguments as to why Porsche would put any one of four engines in the car (2.7T, 3T, 3.8 NA or 4NA). But what's actually in there nobody really has any clue.

I'm guessing it doesn't fit without modification to the body in white. Which they said they did for the first gen GT4 so it's not out of the realm of possibility.
