Ok interesting. So high revving < 3.8L perhaps? That could be entertaining.

I've got a 2016 Cayman GTS with about 12,000 miles on it. Warranty will be done in February - i.e., next month. I've been drooling after a 718 GT4 ever since I heard they were going to make one, because I'd really like more power and the various other performance-enhancing goodies that come with it. However, I love my GTS.

So, given the high probability that there will be ADM over and above the MSRP, and that I've no guarantee of getting an allocation (although my dealer tells me I'm on the "list"), do I:
  1. Get a 718 GT4 and eat both the depreciation on my GTS as well as the combination of the inevitable price increase of the GT4 plus the ADM.
  2. Keep the GTS, but do some upgrades - like the @BGB Motorsports 3.8L X51 conversion, possibly some kind of brake upgrade.
  3. Look for a good 981 GT4, but I'm not convinced that it's really worth it for me to go from GTS --> GT4
  4. Keep the GTS as is, and go spend my money on something more sensible
Fire away with your thoughts!
I have a 15 gts with 50,000 miles. Bought it a few weeks before they announced the gt4 pricing and have been kicking myself ever since as I expected it to be at least $20-30k more than my car, not $8k (doubtful i would have gotten one, but you know).

I love my gts, been great on the track and a sublime daily driver, but its a pdk and I really want to get back into a manual. I have driven the 981 gt4 and based on the cost hit I would take to upgrade even now for 90% of the same experience, it simply wasnt worth the costs to me when the next one is around the corner. I have a deposit down for the new GT4. That said, if my car was a manual though, I probably would keep the gts and upgrade now that the warranty is up. Then again, I have been buying new sports cars every 2-3 years from age 23 to now at 39 because, while loving my current car, I always looked forward to the next better car.

But having finally bought a new porsche (4.5 years ago), there really isnt anything better for the price than the 981 cayman. Yes, you can move up the Porsche line but the incremental improvement is never near the cost increase.

I say, stay on the list and see if you can get your dealerships last confirmed spot, maybe push out when you might buy to max the value of your car and have the most info if/when you order the new one.

Best of luck.

My 3.4 makes close to 250tq getting close to redline, 250tq at 9000 rpms is 428hp. A 9k 3.4 would be the perfect engine for the gt4.

So the GT4 CS is both quick and fast
...or everyone is sandbagging. ...again. Curious as to how the race will go. Should be fun!

I'm still hoping it's 6 mice. About 633cc's each. . .

The cleaning lady (often quoted in this forum) was privy to some good inside information. The janitor who I talked to was also listening to the conversation when words were spoken about the road car and the race car engines. This is where things become confusing. The cleaning lady did have some schnapps before hand though I was told. The janitor does have hearing aids. Things could have been mis-interpreted. But a 4l motor was mentioned by the people who know. The road car will be excellent regardless of engine. Having that much more aero and some more power will make track days that much more enjoyable. Get in line for this one!

You mean it’s not as insightful as your “accurate” prediction at #4673 about the CS?
