Allowing comments on auction sites is counter-productive as bidders may try to discourage other potential buyers from bidding by bashing the listing.

It seems to work for BAT and their buyers. I am a member of the site and follow some auctions and the real buyers look past the peanut gallery. There are few good buys on the site most go for retail.

My bro-in-law and I have been watching this one for a few days... I'm saying it will go for over 100... he thinks less... but he doesn't know about LWBS and such.
Good luck!

That one commenter was stressing me out...
Thankfully other commenters stepped and his comment was flagged as non-constructive. I was going back and forth with the guys at BaT via e-mail about this guy...they said they were monitoring his comments.

Im just curious why is BAT better than EBAY? They get a 5% buyers commission up to $100,000= $5.000? I really don't know what their value proposition or competitive advantage is? Not saying it isn't good just trying to understand . carl

5/10 years ago ebay was the place, now its a waste of time and/or used by most dealers as a form of advertising. BAT is the place, true market pricing, the 5% buyers premium weeds out the dreamers

As mentioned, these days it's almost entirely just an advertising method for dealers. Tons and tons of listings, many for junk and many with wildly unrealistic reserves.
BAT, on the other hand, curates the cars on auction... Only a small percentage of sellers that have cars they would like to sell on BAT get to sell on bat. It used to be about 50%, but I think with there huge rise in popularity, it is much lower now. BAT controls how many cars are on auction, what type of cars are on auction, won't typically list a car if it has an unrealistic reserve, rarely will list cars with significant issues like salvage titles, and perhaps most importantly, takes a pretty hefty credit card deposit from bidders so they get real buyers.
We'll see how this GT4 does, but some other Porsches have gone for absolutely top dollar on BAT recently, especially when factoring in the buyers premium. I'm not so sure I agree that it is 'true market pricing though... For some cars and owners, it's like winning the lottery to get to sell on BAT as they seem to sell for OVER market pricing!

Yes - from an auction standpoint - ebay is NOT the place. But in terms of GREAT, relatively easy nationwide exposure - I always list my private vehicles on there.
I usually always start my searches on Ebay as well - as it provides me a good idea of current inventory and pricing throughout the country. I know they are 'fresh' listings unlike autotrader where sometimes ads are up for a year, or forums where prices are overinflated because of owners ego / attachment to the cars.
And that's noted that I list my private vehicles everywhere - cl, autotrader, ebay, forums etc.
If anything - forums have been the biggest waste of time to list/sell vehicles as there are too many 'know it alls', 'lowballers' and 'deal seekers' - that spring up discounting the value of vehicles. I have never once sold any enthusiast car through the appropriate car related forum.
Craigslist has always been great for me as well, especially for cars <$100K.
