Default PCCB new pad thickness?

Hey guys. My search-fu is not working well so I'm hoping someone can help.

I just took off my PCCB rotors to take them to the dealer to get measured using the special tool.

Just measured the pads and I have about 9.5 - 10 mm of material remaining (without the backing plate) on all four corners. I'm planning to swap the pads inside/out and outside/in to balance the very minimal tapering that's occurring so far.

Does anyone know the thickness of new PCCB pads?

Thanks!

John

I just got a call from my dealer regarding the PCCB rotors. He said there is very little wear. I'll report back on the numbers when I pick up the rotors this evening.

I'll have to go back and check but I have between 15 - 20 track days on my GT4 so I'm quite happy with the apparent wear rate.

I was going to order some Girodisc but since I like the PCCBs so much, I'm going to hold off.

Yep. Usually about four to six 20-25 min sessions per day.

I should note that I am super religious about cooling the brakes on the last lap and then driving around the paddock for a few mins before parking.

We show the Pagid RSC pads at 16.6mm thick when new so it should be close to that for a stock Porsche pad as well. The thickness is measured as the friction material and the backing plate.

That's good to know. My 9-10mm measurement was material only and didn't include the backing plate.

If you've seen his lap times, you know he uses the brakes only to balance the car to turn in - and maybe a little trail...

For those who have PCCB's, it sounds like there is a wide range of track days before you need to replace the brake pads which are around $700 for a full set. How do you know when you need to replace them, like any other set of pads I assume it has a scraper? What's a good cool down method for post-track sessions in the pits, which this helps save the rotors, pads, or both?

I wouldn't wait for the pads to get that thin. Check them visually every track day or two when you swap wheels/tires left right. I swap my pads (within the same caliper) after about 1/4 wear -- meaning, put the inboard pad on the outside and the outside pad on the inside of the caliper. This will help even out the pad wear so you don't get too much pad taper. I've never had issues with the piston pucks either -- maybe swapping is why.

Personally, I'd replace the pads when they are about half worn.

Sounds like you are getting some good wear on those brakes. I have always read its best to change PCCB pads at 50% wear to avoid over heating the ceramic laminate of the rotor. If you like ceramic rotors, try the ST Ceramics. Much cheaper than PCCB and much longer wear with even better stopping.

I have been saying this for two years now... Over 15 hours operating on the Nurburgring GP track and mine also still look new... When I asked Manthey to replace they said "Yah we'll take a look, but I think you'll be surprised".. I was. 12k Km's mostly to the track and back and still have roughly 10+mm
