Default Measuring Toe

I wanted to check my toe settings after my first track event with the GT4. I had a toe setting failure on my 987 caused by a failure to properly torque the eccentric bolt nut and had to do a toe correction in the paddock. I did that by eye but came up a way to do it with strings without having a Smart String setup. Basically I stretched a string alongside the car at the wheel center line height between two jack stands. This string must be parallel with the center-line of the car. On the GT4 I measured front and rear track width and then measured the offset between the tire and the wheel hub. Using this info and stock wheels and tires, I determined that the string must be 1/2" further from the rear hub then the front hub. Different wheels and offsets will slightly change this. Once the string is in the right position measure between the string and the front and back of the wheel to determine toe.

Bill,
Have you considered the Elephant racing eccentric adjuster locking kit to prevent the eccentric bolts from slipping? I'm going to try them on the Spyder at some point.

Your link goes towards 986 and 987 versions. The GT4 suspension is completely different. Do you have a valid link for the GT4; regular 981 won't count either?

I don't have a better Elephant Racing link but suspect the eccentric bolts are the same between GT4 and 981. Eventually I'll put a set on my Spyder and report back.

You do realize, through your RL (online) search, that the suspensions are different between your convertible and a GT4. Its never too late to get a head start.

Obviously the suspensions are different but share common parts.

The GT4 and Boxster both use the same P/Ns for the camber eccentric adjustment bolt ( 997 331 217 03 ) and toe eccentric adjustment bolt ( 997 331 217 02 ).

And the side section, wishbone, etc, etc, is different. Just because 1 PN (bolt) is the same doesn't mean that your elephant will fit. Companies reuse parts, especially small stuff like bolts. Why do you think elephant doesn't list it for the GT4; they haven't confirmed it. Ergo, they know better than to just blanket list it.

ER doesn't have a GT4 to verify the fitment of any of the existing parts in the current ER catalog. They used our car to do measurements on toe links and will have some available in the near future.

I think that locking plate will fit just fine os a Spyder or GT4.
