Default Serious Advice Needed - DEALER SCRAPE MY GT4

I know it is just a car... people can judge if this thread makes them feel uncomfortable......

Well... as a purist, after 6+ months' waiting for an allocation and 3+ good months' waiting for the car to be produced and shipped to your dealer.

Okay... when you are traveling... 2,300 miles from home... feeling exhausted after a long long day.......... all a sudden, your deal texted you with a photo of your baby GT4 being delivered. Feeling unexpected and blessed, you push out all the schedules and fit in first available 5 hours' flight back home, trying to pick it up... You stared at the photo of yellow popsicle for hours in the flight... You got home late and could not pick it up...

Okay... next day... got stuck with work and had to fly to another state... okay... your SA called and was very understandable....... Scheduled the collection to next week...

Okay...... you are on your way to the airport... and got a text from your dealer with a remainder of balance due for the car, which you requested earlier the day... great... and your dealer asked you to call him......

'Oops.. we got a little nice 'TATTO' on your brand new GT4 which you have not seen in person yet, someone bumped your car to another on the way to car wash, we will get a new bumper, have the best guy in town to paint and install for you, it will be just like new, not you or your lawyer would tell it' been damaged'

First second you thought your dealer was being funny and however, actually, he was not... End of story......

It is not your story, but mine. Being so surprised and frustrated, I cancelled my flight and sit in the airport thinking about what to do.

After all, I know, it is just a car...... Be helpful, please do not judge.

Depends on the extent of all damage, not just what they told you about, and if only a bumper cover scratch or crack, it depends on the quality of paint work. I would at a minimum demand a monetary offset of some sort, even if it's $1000 of goodies from their parts and accessories department. And that's after they did a spotless and top notch repair job.

Okie981, thanks for the advice... take my experience, address this to your dealer when you take the delivery..............

Get photos showing the damage and a written report from the dealer. Most people wouldn't find an issue with this repair on a future sale.

First, sorry to hear this happened.

Next, take a few deep breaths and realize everything that has gone well for you to put you in a position to custom build a new Porsche GT car, and a rare mid-engines one to boot. Things are likely more good than bad in the big picture.

Now, this is incredibly frustrating and disappointing and you should be happy they told you about it. Could have replaced and painted a new bumper and no paint meter or anything short of disassembly would indicate that it wasn't the "original" bumper. If they said nothing would you have known or cared? Do you know of any other parts were replaced at the factory because they were out of spec or failed QA? Where are those "original" parts.

Yes, it sucks. Dealer did the right thing by disclosing it and offering to put it right. That said, some consideration for pain and suffering would not be unwarranted - maybe a car cover and the first couple service visits could be comp'ed. Porsche makes money by pulling heart strings, but this is the downside for them when it goes wrong.

I'd actually like the original bumper, could make a nifty garage ornament!

Worst case is you don't accept the car, they will mark it up and sell it to someone else, and you request an allocation for a future GT car.

It's easy for me to speculate on what I'd do since I haven't invested the time, money and emotional energy, so I'll spare you that useless perspective.

Best of luck and if you do take the car, drive the wheels off of it and enjoy life. It's much too short :-)

There is little that will make you feel better now, other than recognizing you are in good health (I hope). As an old attorney friend used to say "In business there are no problems, just expenses." Get the dealer to sell you the car at invoice...or get you another. Use one of two approaches, Crazy Insane or Cool Cucumber. Good luck--it'll turn out for the best.

Assuming it's purely cosmetic, I would let it go.

There is not much of a bargaining position for you. There are no more cars. If you give it up, someone will take your place. The dealer knows this.

Take the car, but ask what they will do to make it right. In the final analysis, you will likely end up with a perfect car, either way.

1) As previously stated: Pictures, Dealer Report, Parts List. That way, you void any depreciation or accusations when you sell it = no loss of value due to scratch.
2) Some small concession should be made.

BTW, what idiot harmed your car? I would want answers.

That sucks, but the car is way too nice to give up. Have it fixed at the best shop and they really should offer you something for the damages.

Just want to add that my friend's GT3 was damaged at the port (SD) and caused an 8 week delay in delivery. He went insane, but in the end got his clean Carfax GT3 and drove it home. 12,000 miles later, he is as happy as a clam! It was fixed, it didn't leave a trail, and he got the car he wanted and paid for.
I hope this is the happy ending you want, and get.

Many cars are damaged at port and owners never the wiser. I'd just use this as bargaining for some extras. Free passes to PEC? First few services on the house + alignment? Some money off the car? Whatever makes u feel better.

This. OP, it's unfortunate this happened, but it happens during shipment to other cars and owners never know about it -- and I think dealers don't even have to be told about it if the damage is below a certain threshold, or maybe they always know and just don't have to tell the buyer about it below a certain threshold. Anyhow, if it's purely cosmetic, I agree with others to get it to a fantastic shop, get documentation of the work, and then move on. You definitely do not want to refuse delivery over this because you'll miss out on an amazing car, and as damage goes, bumpers are pretty tame. Sorry this happened, but honestly you'll forget about it before you finish the break-in, and once you reach that point, you absolutely won't think about it again because you'll be too busy having a blast.

P.S. I scraped the rear bumper of my M3 in a parking garage when I was backing out of a space and grazed the detached metal bumper of a parked Suburban. I had 800 miles on the car. The Suburban was completely fine, but I had a long gash in the bumper and a tiny crease and scratch in the rear quarter panel. I had a feeling similar to what you're probably feeling now (not sure if it feels better or worse in cases where you're the one who made the mistake....), but I took it to a fantastic shop. Because of the quarter panel's size and the fact that it went up and over the car to form the A-pillar, a complete fix for that tiny scratch and crease would have cost $3K, so I skipped that, but I paid to have the rear bumper repainted and they did a really great job touching up the quarter panel scratch as best they could -- and within a couple of weeks, even despite an imperfect repair, that damage never popped into my mind again.

Thanks all for the inputs, I really appreciated it.

Since I told my SA that I will come to pick it up this week or next Tuesday at latest, before all these happened... He informed me that the 'new car' might not be ready by then. I am not a lawyer... Not intentionally to focus on timing... but I do not truly appreciate that honestly/confession after a second thought cuz I will find all these out when I am at collection anyway.

Well, yea... I would agree with all of you guys, I think that I won't have a single thread of regret paying for the nature of the car, but just don't feel happy about this situation.

It's a fking car
It's a fking bumper
If it really was just a bumper I can guarantee you wouldn't have known and couldn't tell if done well
Walk on the allocation if you're all wired up about it
