The conclusion isn't very satisfying. The RS isn't twice the car as the GT4, but the writer never comes to a final word on the Cayman. Instead, he goes off taking about GT4RS, which were know isn't going to happen.

And it's articles like that which is why I don't subscribe to Automobile Mag anymore...
I can built the car they are talking about... swap out shorter gearing in the box and if I'm feeling rather flush, buy a GT3 crate motor and swap... but that is silly money now (What $30k-$40k for the motor alone?)
Or just go out and buy a used Cayman race car... or stop by DeMan or Bodymotion...

Why do people compare these cars? It makes no sense to me. The RS is up to 3 times the real world cost of the GT4 and is Porsche's ultimate attempt at a track weapon short of the hypercars. Any comparison is not particularly meaningful and the GT4 will always be inferior on the track.

Somehow all these write-ups are only really interesting before you get the car. Once you've had the car for a couple of months, done a few track days most reviewers points based around a day or so aren't really interesting. I found myself scrolling through most of it since it was just a lot of words with little actual meaning.

If they are comparing the GT4 to the RS(no question a Super-car) it says a lot about the GT4. He is correct - the RS is an tremendous car - but - the GT4 is also, as well, or they would not be comparing them.
The problem is what else are you going to compare the GT4 to?? The Evora 400 or M4/M2. It will spank them both in overall build quality and functionality.
The GT4 is in an unusual/unique class by itself- especially when you put price in to play. Also - expect people to mod the heck out of these. There is very little room in the GT3/RS model but the GT4 engine was de-tuned.

There was a 2 day press event late last year at road Atlanta. The two cars being demonstrated? GT3-RS and GT4.
Thus we have a series of articles comparing the two from multiple media outlets. The author of this article didn't like the wet conditions during the press event days so he secured his own two copies of the car and ran the test on a dry day.

Well, look at it this way. When the GT3 came out they were comparing it to the Ferrari 458. It says a lot about the GT3.

Now you are talking. These two are matched up very well, from a performance standpoint.

I think the 6-3 might be the match performance wise.

GT4 and 997.2 gt3 got pretty similar nurburgring time. Id say thats a fair comparison.
