Leather Steering Wheel/Shifter + Base Interior?

Here you go. I did that exact option as while I like the leather option, this can take more abuse (read kids). I'm glad I went with the leather steering wheel too. The leather is a cheap option though and looks nice.

I thought you asked this in another thread. Maybe I answered someone else who answered the same question. Anyway, I tried the Alcantara wheel in a GTS and if anything it might be a bit thicker initially, but it also compresses more than the leather wheel, so in use they're basically the same. I wish the leather wheel were a bit thicker, but I'm coming from an E92 M3 which was known for having a huge wheel, and I'm finding myself adjusting just fine.

I have the leather steering wheel without leather interior. I don't mind it and I think only those that know it could have leather there might notice it. The dash is so busy with those 4 long vents that its not that noticeable.
However with all that said if I had to do it over again the leather interior is a bargain and I would add it. I think the platinum stitching looks just fantastic.

I've got an alcantara steering wheel in my M3, and while I love the way it feels, it's a bit difficult to keep clean, and with years of track driving it's gotten a bit funky. MY GT4 will have a leather one so I won't have to deal with that issue.

I've considered using gloves on the track, but just find there's too much fabric for me to get comfortable in them as they bunch up when holding the wheel. Plus in the summer they'd be warm. Maybe I'm just picky.

Hey, we all started somewhere right? It may have been heavy and the factory brakes may have been woefully inadequate on track, but there are definitely worse places to start than a car with an NA V8 that revs to 8400 RPM and won International Engine of the Year for 5 of the 6 years it was eligible (lost in 2013 to the 12C's engine), all in a car that a Motor Trend article argued was the best all-around car on the road in 2009 for its blend of style, power, handling, practicality, comfort/convenience, price, etc.
(Ok ok fine, I STARTED with an 08 Acura TL Type-S, but that was before I got REALLY into cars and had car enthusiast friends. I was about to graduate from college, and I grew up in a family of Hondas and Volvos. I still think that car was fantastic for what it was, though.)

Thanks so much Volks

By the way I think the leather steering wheel/shift **** option is the THE best single option to add and it's free. I would have paid extra if they charged for it. I plan to keep my car a long time (even more so now that the revised 2017 version of the Cayman's are 4 bangers) and no way will that suede/alcantara survive the long haul. Plus I think the leather steering wheel with that stitching looks absolutely stunning and is the showpiece of the interior.

What's wrong with an M3?

Yeah, I just thought I would check the pulse in here as well. I do like the Alcantara wheel and my OCD side struggles with the gradual change of matte steering wheel leather to shiny no matter how good I am at caring for it so I almost think the Alcantara would be a better long term choice for me.

Well, this creates a dilemma. I'm really near my limit at dual zone climate and lwb. Would you guys sacrifice climate for leather? Climate is $890 and leather is $1200. I'm starting to think leather is much better value.

My GT4 has an alcantara wheel and I've driven a friend's car with a leather wheel. I prefer the leather wheel. The fancy alcantara interior (with yellow stitching) of my GT4 does look great but if I was doing it again, I'd just go with a standard interior. It still looks good and for a track car, I'd prefer it. I like not having to worry about the interior too much. I think the only downside to the leather wheel is that it's a bit slippery if your hands are sweaty but I guess gloves would fix that.
