Ask yourselft if knowing some paintwork was done will take away from your enjoyment of the car and if you would be happier without it.

BMW touched up a bumper that had scratches on it after doing Euro Delivery, it was no big deal to me.

You won't even think about it again after driving it for a few months, don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

Or take delivery and reorder a car in late 2016 when the next GT4 arrives, then decide at that time to take it (and trade in the former) or keep the one you have. Might be a good way to get a great place in line for the .2 version.

Some good posts here that mention how more common these damages at the port are than I thought. And not just the port, but the car goes through so many human hands before it gets to our garage. Especially considering the transport process of shipping it from Europe to U.S. And these ports contain a huge number of cars, so there will be more fender benders than I really thought about originally.

DUDE!!!! You keep talking about unknown damage but have not explained how you know this! You are acting like it could be a total loss or a scratch. How the heck did you even know about the problem? You seem to keep evading the question a lot of people are asking!

So let's get real...realdrray......how did you find out? The person in the know should of been able to disclose the damage to you. Sorry not trying to be an AH but many people have asked and you have been very vague.

^ it's called PVMS, Porsche vehicle management system. Any dealer can look up the history of a car from production to delivery and after service. BMW has it also, all you ask for is a vehicle history report. That's how you get your v status numbers. It will also tell you what is happening at the port

Or just call the guy at the port that is handling your car

He already said another enthusiast told him. I'm pretty sure I know who it is but for privacy purpose I won't say either. Obviously this person has access to the PVMS or some port management system so is either a Porsche dealer, PCNA, Pasha, or VAG Logistics employee.

Since it finished processing and is on its way, that means the damage was probably very light so it could be something simple as a wet sand and buff. If paint was involved then I'd worry about clear film as the paint will need to cure for at least a month otherwise it'll strip right off when you remove it in the future.

I think he just doesn't want to reveal any names, but it was through the PVMS system.

^^^^ Great...Thanks! I saw that but a lot of people still asked so I pressed the question. Now I think we have a much better picture and others should not have to ask how he knew.

the other's are correct, i found out through the PVMS system, it wasn't enough damage to have to report in VA and va law is 3% or greater so no damage disclaimer was needed. I never claimed it as a total loss i was merely stating that i would not take delivery of a car that had metal work or paint on the metal. turns out the "bumper was gouged" and then fixed not sure if it was replaced or resprayed. The car will get here on monday and will do a thorough inspection then and most likely go ahead and take delivery. I didn't want to mention any names as to who gave me the info for privacy's sake. turns out after asking around these type of minor repairs are more common than most think and rarely does the dealer tell the client and in some cases they don't even look close enough to even know. i guess ignorance is bliss sometimes.

Just an FYI the body shop work done at the port is usually done to a very high standards. I've heard that the PDR guys working at the ports are sent to Germany for training for Mercedes/BMW/Etc.

Yeah, that's what it seems like, it's a minor repair which might have even happened to some of our cars already. Looks like they tapped the bumper up against something, but nothing too crazy. And you are right, if the PVMS was never checked, you may have never known because the quality of port fixes is high ....they have to be considering the car is brand new and hasn't even reached the dealer yet.
