Given that the GT4 Cup will be very simular to the street car, i think alot of parts will be available over the counter and not exclusive through $$ PMNA.

Sticker price should be around the same or better then what it typically costs to convert a new street car to a spec conti challenge car.

Crews most likey cost the same as GT3 cup crews.

Pump gas would be interesting....

My guess is that the initial purchase price and parts will be the savings over a GT3 Cup car. (dare i say half...)
Spares package should also be more afforddable then 991 Cup.

Replacement tubs will also be interesting to see where they are priced...

I was at a Porsche dealer getting some service done on my car last Friday and spoke to a gentleman/customer who raced Porsche Cup cars for fun.
He mentioned that the cost just for the tires for a weekend event was around $7,000, just for the tires to be competitive. Said they used slicks.
No doubt about it its a rich man's sport.

tires are indeed an expense. Especially for freshies.

The GT4 might run in a series where they run a spec tire. Might keep tire costs reasonable when compared to 991 Cup Series... hopefully

I know a weekend in a Cup Car is a 5 figure adventure and not something I would be comfortable dropping (yeah, I'm just a working stiff). I'm wondering what the wait of a GT4 Cup without the driver would be...2700lbs? 2600lbs? Now if the GT4 cup was in the 4 figures...

Look at the GT3-R that was just announced last week. I think one of the blogs mentioned the car price at $450,000.

Would it be realistic to expect the GT4 Cup to be at 1/2 that price?

What part of racing did you think was going to be cheap?

Closer to 1/3 that price.

The 991 Cup would be 1/2 of the 991 GT3-R.

It would be nice if the GT4 was close to half of the 991 Cup.

From what I have gathered there will be 4 GT4 cup cars brought to the U.S.. Now maybe I misunderstood so don't get crazy on me. I know the plumb brothers are getting two as they are not running the 911 in the ST class next year. I know of one other team that got asked if they would like to participate with one. I put my name in he hat to buy the car for the team. I doubt it will happen but I at least asked.

I just can't see the GT4 Cup coming in that cheap - take a look at some of the other GT4 options - the Aston GT4 is $175k, Lotus Evora GT4 $192k at current exchange rates, BMW M3 GT4 was $170k in 2009/2010. I'm still expecting $180k to $200k.

Agreed. However being based on a mass production car using parts from spare parts bin, Id say $150k low, 180k high.

The price of entry is a red herring. It's the price of ownership that's the issue. Motorsports is happy to sell a new car at a loss if it means selling years of sealed engine rebuilds and time change suspension parts at a hefty profit. Their business model is built on it.

I don't care much what it costs new, I want to understand consumables and running costs- these need to be less than half the current Cup's for the GT4 to be of much interest to me...

Porsche now understands it must actually control the running costs for all their customer cars. Perfect example, the 997 GT3-R was probably the very worst for operating costs in the entire GT3 field, and it's one of the reasons why so many customers left. There is supposedly a focus so that their customer cars are not as expensive to operate. New GT3-R should be more efficient, as should Cup (when it moves to the new engine), and GT4 Cup. As awesome as the old mezger is, it's insanely expensive to maintain in race trim. Look at the Audi R8 LMS, it's rebuild schedule is insanely long, and uses lots of production parts. It's no secret why so many GT3 teams race that car.

Just like the base price of the GT4 was a pleasant surprise, I think everyone will be happy with the GT4 Cup. Capacity to build will probably be the limiting factor.

What I have heard:

1. Yes they are close to revealing the GT4 Cup car, and yes there is a huge amount of interest.
2. If you don't currently have an established race team, don't even bother asking for one right now.
3. Porsche will require some sort of hands-on training for the pit/engineer crew... at the factory. In Germany.
