Window open on track? Most tracks over here you would get a black flag and some discussion with the marshalls to follow...

Yes, here in the US it's windows down for most events, even in the rain!

They seem to think that it's safer and you are easier to extract from the car in the event of a crash. I think they also want to be able to see you inside the car, and especially with passengers.

Also, less glass breakage and danger in the event of an unplanned...event.
