Reminds of that old visual illusion diagram where squares 'A' and 'B' are actually the same color:

The one on this page is even crazier. Opposite-appearing colors are identical, and identical-appearing colors are polar opposites: http://www.scifun.ed.ac.uk/pages/abo...-illusion.html

At the risk of confusing things further... am I the only one who thinks the trim on the center console, etc. is completely different than the trim on the driver's side door in this photo? The door looks like "standard" aluminum whereas the rest of the trim looks darker.

The standard aluminum isn't reflective, if you saw that you saw the cheap plastic crap. Maybe the dealer didn't spec the actual black trim?

"Galvano" trim is reflective and offered on the regular 981's; it's the same shiny finish the shift ****, A/C vents, steering wheel, etc are coated with. If standard brushed aluminum on GT4 looks reflective in pics, that is only due to being blown out with poor white balance in the photo because it is matte.

Higher resolution would confirm, but that car just appears to be spec'd with the leather wrapped trim. The "black aluminum" is basically like a black iPhone (aka Space Gray)

I suppose that's possible, but I think it's clear that we need more photos from owners that are taken in other lighting conditions. I first saw black aluminum trim on this 991 GTS and it is absolutely black, though maybe Porsche has changed their coloring strategy for the 981: http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2015-...#slide-3112267

Default Anodized Black Bushed AL Trim

I've seen a gts with black alu trim, and it is definitely black.. Also had spoke to SA about it when I had a gt4 spot and he confirmed that it was same. There is something very strange going on here.. The OP's just looks like the regular brushed aluminum trim. Error in the order?

Let's not confuse the "anthracite" offered for GT4 to the "black" for other models. I'm keen to see more pictures under diff lighting conditions too (light & shadow) - I'd like it to be darker, and OP's pics under the sun is far too light and not much diff to the standard. I would probably go for Carbon given the doubt of the shade of this anthracite aluminium..

Well that's just it. Do we know that the GT4's darker aluminum trim is different from other 981s, or even other 991s? It's called black aluminum just like those other models, not smoked/tinted/dark/anthracite, etc, so the implicit assumption has been that the GT4's trim is no different. But the first photos in this thread indicated otherwise -- and now other photos seem to contradict that, or it's all a trick of the light.

Ok, that matches the 991 GTS photo I linked to earlier: blacker than both the leather and Alcantara. I would be very surprised if the OP's trim looked that way under different lighting conditions, and judging by his wording on Post #1, so would he. Strange....

Could Porsche have messed up the finish on a batch and somehow not caught it in QC? Like I said earlier, I would have just assumed OP's order was built incorrectly if he hadn't said he saw other GT4s with the standard trim at the same time. Maybe tricks of the light applied even in-person?

I just didn't want shiny crap in the cabin. If it's dark dark or semi-dark, that's fine. The GTS I saw had it and it was pretty dark. It's why I ordered it in my car. Thanks for sharing the pics.
