Alcantara is resistant to scratches. I scratched my leather steering wheel with my rings. I will go with alcantara next time.

Check the GT3 section. There's already a long thread there, and even Googling "Porsche alcantara steering wheel" will give you some good results. Bottom line is that alcantara can pill and look gross if you use the car fairly regularly and don't clean it regularly; a toothbrush is apparently the recommended implement for that purpose. If it will be track-only and/or you'll wear driving gloves a lot, then no worries. Or if you want the looks/grip and are willing to put up with the extra maintenance or won't be keeping the car long, then go for it.

I'm getting leather because after trying alcantara on a GTS, it didn't strike me as much better, in fact I'm not even sure I preferred it at all. At least leather is a known quantity for me.

I have leather in my GTS and I am switching to alcantara for the GT4. Mainly driving on track with gloves I don't think there is too much of a difference in function, but I prefer the look of the alcantara.

I am sticking with alcantara. Wanted it on the macan but was not available. I daily drive my m3 with alcantara wheel and you do need to cleanse every couple of months to keep it soft but it is very simple with sonax cleaner and microfiber towel.

Went with leather, alcantara gets a 'worn' look after usage and is more work to maintain. I think leather looks better also.
