Well said, John. I guess the old saying rings true in this case: if you can't beat'em, join 'em.
I appreciate your concern that a 3.8 from the factory in a Cayman might threaten some of your business. But it doesn't appear that they will offer 3.8's (e.g, GT4's) in nearly enough numbers to satisfy the demand. If anything, I think it will increase the demand for 3.8 conversions. As you told me quite a ways back, it's not a matter of "if" we decide to put 3.8's in our Caymans, it's "when".

Pretty much every part there is an aftermarket option that's better - a lot of the OEM parts are engineered to (i) hit a certain MSRP; or (ii) comply with regulations in most markets and not necessarily 100% performance.

Did anyone notice this sentence in the press information?
" The wing angle is adjusted for this purpose, and special inserts that cover the front axle diffuser channels can be removed. For legal reasons, however, this is only permitted off of public roads."
So we have additional and adjustable front downforce? That seems like a first. (This seems distinct from the top radiator outlet, but I could be wrong).

I think one reason is that with a mid-engined car it's possible to have a functional rear diffuser under the car (no engine to prevent an upward angle at the back to create the inverted airfoil).

Akrapovic makes one for the 981S and I imagine they will make one for the GT4. It is dual-mode and connects to the dash switch for stock-like operation. But it costs $6,625:
