Default 100-200 / 60-130 Times

Hi everyone.

Lots of information in this forum on bolt-on performance mods, but barely anything on real-world performance data. Not a big fan of dyno numbers - too many variables. Surprised that none of the performance houses have posted any 100-200 / 60-130 times for their tunes, headers, plenums etc.

So, I thought I’d share some of my findings to help others searching for this data, and see if there are others who’d like to contribute with transparent, verifiable, and accurate info.

P.S. I’m based in the UAE. Our 100-200 times don’t usually live up to what I see in other parts of the world. Blame the heat, high humidity, and poor fuel quality. In any case, my runs were under similar conditions with the same driver (myself) so can offer a helpful point of comparison. I’m shifting as fast as I can whilst still respecting the transmission. I’d get faster times if I was less concerned about the gearbox, but I’m not prepared to do that. Same technique used in all runs (launch in second, revs 5-5k).

Session 1: Bone stock GT4 (steel brakes, carbon buckets) EXCEPT BMC air filters. Half tank of fuel (98 RON / 93 Octane). No passenger. Temp: 30 degree celsius.

Best 100-200 of 11.53 seconds. Consistent repeated runs of 11.5-11.7.

Session 2: Catless long tube headers installed. Brand: Top Gear UK. Don’t really care for one brand being better than another. It’s metal tubing at the end of the day. Top Gear headers have a good reputation outside the US and they’re cheap. People say they resemble Soul catless headers so I’d expect similar results. No other mods to car. Half tank of fuel (98 RON / 93 Octane). No passenger. Temp: 25 degree celsius.

Best 100-200 of 10.70 seconds. Consistent runs of 10.70-10.73

I’m impressed. Almost a second better. She’s definitely making more power!

Over the next few months I’ll be timing my runs after each mod and posting the results for people to see. A tune will likely be next.

Thoughts?

Notice that I’ve posted the 10.7 run where I started in third gear (revs at 4-4.5k). My experience has been that starting in 2nd or 3rd yield similar 100-200 times. Faster times starting in second, but you lose time due to an extra shift. Balances out. In any case I have a verified run starting from 2nd with a time of 10.71 seconds. Will post once I can get the damn phone to work!

I agree! 60-130 is a great test of the car’s motor.

I used to play around in the modified 996TT world and that was the only test anybody cared about. Sevens was where you wanted to be, and some of the studs were in the sixes.

that’s moving! I know the GT4 isn’t a 60-130 car, and I certainly didn’t buy it because it’s a straight line monster, but I like data to back up my performance mods.

Agreed on all counts. My Porsches keep getting slower, and I keep liking them better! After a Turbo S I got a 991 GTS, followed by the GT4.

As promised, circling back with some more data now that the car’s been tuned.

changes from last time: FVD tune. Temperature slightly cooler at 20 degrees celsius (as opposed to 24 degrees). Fuel level and all other parameters the same as last time.

Best 100-200 time of 10.19 seconds. Almost 0.5 seconds quicker than headers only. Overall improvement of almost 1.5 seconds from stock!

Timing session had to be cut short, but I am quite confident that sub 10 is possible, especially with even cooler weather.

im very happy with this result. The FVD tune is evidently working, and I can finally rest easy that the header and tune combo is indeed yielding performance benefits and I don’t have to depend on my (or other’s) butt dyno!
