Default Which 911 model is "complimentary" to 981 Spyder??

This may seem like a bit too broad of a question, but for those of you who have both a 981 Spyder and a 911, what year/type of 911 do you have and do you feel it compliments your Spyder?

What I'm looking for in a 911 to go along with my Spyder is a car that my wife and I can take on longer (8+ hour) road trips. Of course this is also possible in the Spyder but after about 4 hours of driving in the Spyder it gets a bit tiring. I know there are few if any 911's that have the same driving dynamics as the Spyder but are there any that come close--but are also very comfortable for longer road trips?

Before purchasing my Spyder I was nearly tempted to buy a 997.2 GTS with manual transmission. Very unlike my Spyder of course but it seemed like it would make a solid road trip car. So I'm a bit partial to the 997 911s but have not driven a newer model.

Thoughts?

If I had to get a 911 to compliment my Spyder with the purpose of being a road trip car, I would look into a 997.2 or 991. I’d be open to most variants and PDK.

If I could pick any model, I think a 991.1 or 991.2 Targa 4 GTS would be a pretty epic road trip car. I drove a 992 Targa 4S and thought it was an awesome all-rounder. It wasn’t as exciting as my Spyder but my road trip car doesn’t need to be. Plenty of performance, good open or closed roof experience, and AWD to handle any inclement conditions.

This is helpful. I do like the Targas but I think I'd lean more towards a regular hard top. Also wouldn't mind having a 4S variant for inclement weather (lots of rain where I live). I'd be fine with PDK.

I owned a very low mile 997.2 base PDK car prior to my GT4. I loved it but if I wanted a road trip/touring type 911 I'd look at a 991.1 in any variant with a PDK. Obviously a GTS would be my preference but a base 991.1 starts about $60k and a GTS is closer to $90-100k or more which is a wide range and your budget is your budget.

Good suggestion. A couple years back when we were in Phoenix my wife and I rented a 2015 GTS cab PDK and drove it about 300 miles, very comfortable and fun to drive. I'll take a good look at the 991.1s.

Since you have a Spyder with the fantastic 4.0 N/A engine and open top driving experience, a 991.2 with PDK would be a great compliment. Different driving / power delivery experience and very comfortable for long road trips.

I had a 991.2 Carrera T and thought it was perfect in almost every way. On long trips it would get 36 mpg on the highway and was a delight to drive! Embrace the T for Touring!

For me, my "other Porsche" is a 2017 Macan S.

I have had several 9/11‘s over the years, but right now a 991.2 two Carrera T coupe with PDK and rear wheel steering. No other real options. Great road trip car. Softronic tune helps too

Had a 991.1 GTS PDK, RWD. Great compliment.

Any variant with the 3.0t. Not because it's better than the N/A variants but because it would compliment your spyder for a better balance. Smooth engines, nice low end torque. Will feel like a luxury car in comparison to the spyder without losing sportiness. Very capable on long drives/road trips.

I had been shying away from the turbo cars but this makes sense!

Did you miss having a manual transmission with this car?

Stu-sounds like a great option. Do you miss having a manual in this car?

Was your car a manual?
