Catless Headers - Inspections (NJ)
Hi all-
My GT4 is a track/street car bit given the stories I have heard of catted GT4s having issues on track, I am looking at aftermarket catless headers. I live in NJ and drive the car about 4000 miles per year (it’s driven to all track days). The penalties for not having a valid inspection in NJ is anywhere from a few hundred bucks to 30 days in jail (?!). I would be fine paying the possible penalties instead of paying a shop to swap headers every two years when my inspection is due bit that jail stuff is crazy. Just curious if there are any other NJ folks here that want to share their decisions. Will cross post on the East area forum too- doesn’t need to be GT4 specific. Thanks!

Collector Vehicles
There is a specific process to classify a vehicle as a collector vehicle. The standards and application process are described below.Standards
- Collector Vehicles must:
- Be a limited production vehicle or a vehicle made in limited quantities.
- Be less than 25 years old.
- Not be registered as a historic vehicle or a street rod.
- Not be driven more than 3,000 miles per year.
- Be insured as a limited use collector vehicle.
- The Collector Vehicle Status Fact Sheet contains more detailed information.
- A vehicle classified as a collector vehicle can be qualified for exemption from safety and emission inspection after the application process is completed.

Great info- thank you! I might go over the mileage restriction but it buys me 5 years of that sticker on my windshield. I will have to call my insurance company and see what restrictions collector car coverage may place on me and my driving habits.

Just lobbing this in from left field, but what, if any, noise restrictions do you face at your favorite track? I heartily recommend Soul catless headers. I’m not subject to emission inspections where I live, and I certainly don’t think my headers are abnormally loud. I have no idea what noise restrictions normally exist at Road Atlanta, but when they impose tighter noise limits from 10-12 on Sunday, I can’t pass muster. Not suggesting you should avoid catless headers by any means, but the kind you get may factor in the kind you want to get. I’ll go back to minding my own business, for the time being at least. Good luck in your efforts.
