Alan,
The Duralast H5 AGM went into my car without modification with the stock bracket parts. I'm sure you've long left Costco though...
now I’m curious, the stock battery location has three positions for the hold down bracket right? When I put an H5 in the shortest set of hold down brackets was still too far from holding the h5 in. Am I missing something?

Hi Peemoa, I think this depends on the specific 981 model..The GT4's utilize the H5 sizing while the Spyder I think still has the more common Porsche battery tray that allows for the H6, H7, and H8 sizes..not 100% on that but I believe it's something along those lines...
Best regards,
Chad

For my GT4, I didn't even change the location of the bracket.
H6 is humungous and adds unnecessary weight. If it can be avoided you should!

So my car (981 gt4) came spec’d with the Porsche lightweight lithium battery. I went and bought an H5 and the battery was too small even with battery hold down in the closest settings. I had to drive back return the H5 and the H6 fit perfect. I slid the h5 all the way to the left when facing the car and there was no way to move the bracket over. Hence the confusion.
The responses that suggest going to a VW dealer for what is described as the OE battery without the Porsche sticker are ridiculous even to the extent that the batteries are the same or the same spec and even to the extent that a VW is authorized to service a Porsche. To that end, why not a BMW, Land Rover of GM dealer? Why a VW dealer?
