Default DeMan vs. BGB

Just kicking the tires here but both seem pretty well respected and I believe the pricing is similar. I do like the staged upgrades offered by BGB. Both are about an 8 hour drive from me so distance is equal.

Anyone have one or the other or perhaps driven or dealt with both? Downsides to either? Horror stories?

I have a local shop but they are more focused on restorations (Road Scholars) so it seems I would have to go out of town to play.

Would love any thoughts or opinions.

Don't think either vendor will chime in to discuss the other to keep their reputation positive and I doubt you will get two separate cars to dyno against each other for an independent analysis.

Who mentioned dyno sheets? Dynos are easy to manipulate and make them show what you need them to. Not trying to spec race cars here. I'm more interested in ownership experience, real world driving, and horror stories.

There are (2) running threads on the DeMan builds in this forum.

So, that implies that they are better?

Just letting you know they are there for you to find some of the information you seek.

I have read them--twice. Good threads as long as people are not arguing about dino numbers.

My question of more about comparing the two companies .

It's hard to say as there really isn't much out there except for whose exhaust you put on and what intake runners you want to go with. Then the tune is where everything is at. Any "normal" bolt on part the engine can easily compensate for with the factory programming. It just depends on how aggressive people get with the custom tunes. I always like to be a little conservative so you protect things and get reliability and longevity out of them.

DeMan is known for the 4.5 engine.
BGB is well known out there and they have factory race cars. So they know what they are doing to extract power out of what they have to work with.

it just depends on what your really trying to do with the car and your goals with it. If you know your going to want the 4.5L upgrade at some point and are committed to it. I wouldn't do anything to the car and just drive it until your ready to have it done. Most if not all of your bolt on upgrades will be taken off and not reused.

If your looking like 2-3 years before you want the 4.5L upgrade and want a little more pep from the car until then, I would go with the bolt on's and a tune for now.

Just my 2 cents But coming from having done almost all the bolt on's, I can say it woke the car up even more and gave it the extra pep it needs since its handcuffed with the transmission gearing. I have the Dundon D4 pro tune and i love it.

Both are reputable shops that have been around for a couple of decades. Not sure you could wrong with either.

If I lived close enough to either shop for an annual checkup visit I'd choose that one. Sure, I could ship my car from Atlanta to DeMan, but for the ensuing X number of years I'd hate to have to get it up there if I wanted them to fix something. Florida's not exactly close, but it's a whole lot easier to just drive there for a one-day visit and drive home the next day.

But you didn’t mention this in your original post. Your original post says that you would like any thoughts or opinions. I’m guessing from another argumentative post in which you indicated, “so that implies that they are better,” that you believe someone should know how to respond to you even if you are not clear (and that you have the same expectations). I also think you may just be trying to “start” something.

I think the OP is just being argumentative. Or he’s unnecessarily hostile or defensive. I can’t tell for certain, but I’m in the process of “psychologizing” him.

I wish we can see the actual fabled BGB 4.2L vs Deman 4.5L dyno

Skip the dyno, go straight to the track test…. Same track, same conditions.
