When I went to take off the coolant cap it was stuck on super tight and I needed to use a wrench to be able to take it off. Now when I twist it back on with my hands, I need a wrench top remove. I can not see any cross threads, and even after wiping everything down it needs a wrench to remove. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I will probably buy a new cap to see if it fixes the issue (hopefully I do not also need to also replace the plastic receptacle which seems a bit more involved and expensive).
Thanks, but the car has been sitting for over a week. It does seem as though it was heated and expansion has caused the issue, but it is in a garage around 70 degrees.
I had mine replaced under warranty. It was leaking (smelled coolant when driving/after parking/small amount of coolant on overflow ridge), despite being on very tight. Service manager told me that the caps were "problematic".
The tab that indicates where you should stop turning is probably broken. I went over this in another thread a while back:

Note on the new one you can see a little ramp, whereas on the broken one the plastic has been completely bulldozed. Without that little tab providing positive feedback of when to stop turning, you'll tend to over tighten by a full turn and require a couple of crescent wrenches clamped down on each end of the cap in order to get it off again.
It's been said elsewhere in any discussion of the user accessible oil/coolant caps, but you just need to turn it until you hear a single click, like this:

Not sure if this is a common issue but had mine replaced on my Boxster Spyder under warranty as well with about 5,500 miles on the ODO.
