I got the same preliminary notice, saying its a free repair and that another letter will be sent when they are ready to make the repair.
Would be neat if this netted me a new alcantara wheel in the process, but I know its just the airbag.
I just picked up a leather wheel from the 718 to replace the OEM alcantara wheel. I'll need to swap out the airbag from one to the other. Hope that's not an issue with any recall... but also I may have one up for sale soon. Not sure if I want to keep it for posterity and GT4 completeness for the next owner, or just say screw it and sell it.
My letter came the day before I planned a road trip to New England. Not wanting to leave my favorite vehicle behind, I called 1-800-PORSCHE for more info, and they said this is NOT a "do not drive" warning. They said the car can be driven as long as no warning lights come on. When the dealers are supplied with a solution we will get a second letter.
For those speculating about related steering wheel upgrades, my experience with other manufacturers is that the control modules are not in the steering wheel.
On the bright side, it doesn't seem to be a Takada air bag.

FYI.... there wasnt any air-bag swap when I installed my new GT leather steering wheel.
The wheel was a simple 30 minute install at my local indy shop.
