Default Parking Brake Issue - For Documentation

Hey...posting this for documentation purposes. About 8 weeks ago I go to release my parking brake in my car and get a warning on the dash. The brakes sound like they have retracted and the car drives normally. Just a dash warning. Turn the car off and on...warning goes away.

However...over the next week or so...the warning returns more times than not when switching off the parking brake. So...Dealer Time. (My car is CPO...so no brainer here).

Long story short (three visits and about 15 hours of labor trying to troubleshoot) this is a parking brake issue that has been discovered on 911/991 cars that turns out affects the GT4. Very very rare thing, Possibly the first ever with a GT4 as my dealer had to discuss the issue directly with the Porsche Mothership. After getting the 991 parts in, all is well and the car is working normally and 100% covered under warranty.

My local dealer was a champ for staying with it and tracking down the resolution. Many thanks to them.

Thanks for the info. From what I recall there were a rash of parking brake errors back in 2016 being discussed here. I personally know of one owner that had the issue. Glad this was fixed. The more complicated they make these things...

I still have the problem since 2015.....it went away but recently has come back. Will take care of it this month before warranty expires. Apparently the actuators.

Not so very, very rare. As posted there were a number of parking brake errors several years ago, including my GT4. Fixed under warranty and never re-occurred. Chalked it up to "teething pains."

Yeah, my last car had this issue back in 2016 and the dealer immediately knew it was a problem with the actuator. Once they got the part it was a quick one day turnaround fix.

Is the problem that the parking brake stay engaged after trying to release it? How does one drive the car to the dealership to have it fixed if that is the problem?

On mine you'd hear the parking brake release, get the flashing park brake light error, and if you turned the car off/on it would go away.

Just noticed that you're in Seattle. Was you car at Bellevue Porsche? Saw a yellow GT4 on the jacks when I was there.

One other thing to note about the issue. The time it takes and the duration of the parking brake setting has been reduced by at least half.

Wasn't me. Mine was being wrenched on in Fife.
