Sell 981 gt4 and buy 718 ? worth it?

Now this prompts a question. The current GT4 is rated 385, same as when installed in the S, but I have read countless reports that this is conservative in the GT4's given the intakes, blah, blah, leading to 'guesses' of 400 or so.......has anybody run any verifiable HP tests on these ?
Anybody hear any qualified opinions on the likely production numbers and/or expected ADM ?

I have a $113k MSRP that's fully dialed in with with Dundon headers, GT3 throttle body, plenum, tune, harness bar, salter aero wing supports. One thing that I'm wondering is if the Dundon headers, Salter Aero, and Harness bar if they'll be able to swap over?! Even if I part out my car, I bet with close to 10k miles by this Fall I could only get $93k. If I go with the same build as mine with the 718 GT4, it'll be $128k but maybe I'll pass on PCCB's and it's a $120k build. I'm looking at spending a minimum of $27k plus tax/registration, let's call it $40k...and that's with buying at MSRP. I'm really sour about spending the such a large delta to upgrade for a marginal improvement. At this point I'm likely going to keep my GT4, enjoy the heck out of it and look to buy a 991.1RS or 991.2 GT3 in a year.
Hey Brian, Salter Aero risers will be able to swap over, not the Dundon unfortunately.

If I had a 981 GT4 that I got to build myself to my perfect spec I'm not sure I would make the upgrade. The new car will be faster no doubt and the DF increase is significant. I still think the 981 looks better. The one thing I really really like off the new car is the wing. I already miss the center exit exhaust and in general the new rear just doesn't look as good.
I do like that they aren't making GT cars as exclusive. I hope they end up making 2-3x as many 718 GT4s as the 981. Anything that increases my chances that I may someday get to own a GT car without having to spend a fortune.

Also for those that presently own the 981 GT4 or Spyder, I believe you can add the X51 powerkit for $11k + install. Likely still well under the delta of the new car purchase, and you have a much faster vehicle with an improved power band. You won't get that money back on resale, but you will see depreciation on the 718 anyway.

Porsche press releases say the production "will not be limited". I take that to mean they will make as many as they can sell. I'm guessing they also basically sold as many 981 GT4s as they could too, it just wasn't billed that way.

The 981 was definitely limited but not in the same sense of plaque on the car (X/XXX) limited. AP was on the record a few times discussing the limitations in their production capacity...4-5K total units for 981 GT4 worldwide seems to be the consensus. I have a feeling that Porsche won't let production limitations impact their ability to sell the 718 GT4 now they know there is serious demand (unlike the first time around which was the first run of a GT4...a lot of unknowns).

I agree but I would guess that with the 718, Porsche will be better equipped to meet demand because they will have a longer production window to respond within. That demand could be smaller, but it could potentially be larger if the demand is indeed high. I think they fell short of fulfilling demand based on time constraints in the 981 production. It does not appear they will have those same time constraints with the 718. It will be interesting to see how the actual demand pans out...

When is the 718 production ending ? This might be the limitation on the 718 GT4, On the 981 GT4 only 2016 models were made (during end of 2015 and 2016) because the 718 was right around the corner.

Supposedly the 982 needs to stretch to 2023 after which it'll probably go hybrid/electric. The real question then is if there will be a 718.1 and 718.2 (which seems likely) and what that means for the GT4.....
