Default Max downforce mode?

Hey Everyone,
Thinking about making some changes over the winter and wanted to hear feedback from folks running without the front aero blocks and the wing set to the higher angle. Did you notice a big difference in feel or handling with the different aero settings? Significantly more drag on the straights? Is the extra angle on the wing super annoying as far as rear visibility? Anyone then go to taller wing uprights and canards able to compare?
TIA!

The jury is still out. You might check out this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/gt4/1084...ng-height.html

I don’t know anything about the science or theoretical aspects of this, but I will share my experiences and impressions. After adjusting the spoiler, although I appeared to lose 3-4 mph in top speed on the back straight at Road Atlanta, my laptime fell off by a second or so, perhaps only because, psychologically, I felt more comfortable taking faster turns, including the infamous T 12, faster. Or it could obviously be that the spoiler helped mechanically in that respect. I also sensed more stability under heavy braking. I don’t switch the angle back after going to the track, and I have noticed a decrease in my mpg, fwiw. Hope this will be helpful, but while you may want more anecdotal evidence, you could always just try it and see. It is not a big job to reverse. Also, in my experience, the slightly increased elevation of the spoiler is not detectable in the rear view.

I have definitely felt a difference without the front aero blocks and the wing set to the higher angle, better high speed corner stability.
Put it back recently and prefer it with blocks out and higher wing angle.

Sweet, thanks for all your feedback! Not having had a car that makes actual df before I really just focused on suspension/alignment tweaks up till now but have been thinking a little more stability and stick through some of the faster sweepers would be nice....

When you remove the front blocks did you put the screws back in the holes or did you leave it empty (no screws in the holes)? Thanks

I removed the screws and clips then put them back in the front blocks for safe keeping

So I have one more question. A friend of mine just got a 981 GT4 and wanted to do the same. However, he said there are no front aero pieces on his vehicle. I told him to look for the screw holes as maybe the previous owner had removed them but he said there are no holes. Is it possible that Porsche stopped using the front aero pieces? I’m going to go over tomorrow to look. Any ideas? He’s the 3rd owner. Thanks

Get him to send you a picture. He can turn the wheels full lock and have a look. Send him the video in the previous post to confirm

‘Thank you. I sent him the video last night. He’ll be working on his car tonight. I also sent him a picture of the ones I took off my GT4.

Did he sort it out? I did a track day yesterday and of the 4 GT4 and GT4RS there I was the only one that knew about the aero upgrades. Turns out my little GT4 is pretty quick being 4th fastest behind a Senna, A pro Trans Am series driver in a GT4RS and 992 GT3.

I have mine in "high downforce mode" and im not sure I could tell a difference but Ive only done 1 trackday this year since adjusting the aero. just picked up TPC toe arms and their camber lockout kit so im sure a good alignment will probably be much easier to feel.

He’s been busy so he’s not looked yet. I was going to see the vehicle to get a look but work is keeping him busy. I will follow-up as soon as I hear back or can get to see it myself. Thanks.

He finally sorted it out. He does have the front aero pieces and has removed them. I’ll help him with the rear wing. Thanks again for all of your help.

I wonder how much does it hurt by opening the window like required in most US trackdays/DE. Empirically I suspect it would bring much more turbulence, relatively low-energy air flow to the rear wing thus decrease the downforce. I also wondering if lifting up the wing helps with decreasing the losses. Thanks for any help.
