I made a quick side by side of GT3 vs. 981 GT4 vs. 718 GT4 with some random internet snips. It is amazing what a few slight tweaks to the lines does for the overall looks. I don't hate the new wheel but I don't love it either and prefer the 981. It looks more "Audi" to me. The key differences I see are that the bolts are now placed in the center of the "flower petal" at the base spreading them out a bit. The bend in the spokes is a bit sharper/less curved. And the spokes extend all the way to the outer diameter with a much thinner lip. To me this makes the "petal" more visually prominent and my eye joins/groups the spokes as opposed to treating them as separate.
edit: Also remember that the GT3 wheel is forged where the 981 is flow formed. Based on the thickness of the spokes in the new wheel I would guess it is flow formed again...
A NYC reveal would make the PCA show a whole lot more exciting. I have my tickets!

Reason: typo
Now that you mention it, it does give off an Audi feel. The previous GT4 wheel looks so much better. And whoever mentioned the flower petal thing - I can't unseen that either. Feels like a step down in every way. Hopefully they're be lighter to make up for the looks.

Spokes intersect the edge of the lip now as well...
Here's the GT wheel for the Cayenne Coupe for reference purposes:
Front:
Rears: CC GT wheels have a inner lip on the spokes which actually help the wheel look less flower. Hard to tell if the GT4/Spyder wheel will have these?
Am I the only one who likes the new wheels? Rennlist seems to hate all change in general.
Definitely not an opponent to change. I prefer a 991.2 GT3 to a 991.1 for example. I appreciate the revised front bumper and different rear lights. And the addition of a manual. I also like the look of the PCM versus the 991.1 and 981.
But visual changes have a polarizing effect on people. We have a 718 as well and no matter how much I'm in the car I dislike the vents. I just can't get past them. It feels like change for the sake of change and they went the wrong direction. I like much of the 992, but don't care for the shifter, cup holder, and width of the center console. That may change. But visually I'm not a fan.
That's how I feel about these wheels. It's essentially a .2 GT4. They could have left the wheels alone. But it feels like change just to change something. This is compounded by the fact that visually, for me, the 981 GT4 is near perfect. I'd happily take that car with the updated chassis and engine and be thrilled. As it is, I will stick to the GT4 I have. It's certainly never a disappointment and looks amazing.
Devil's always in the details and I don't care for the new wheel at all. Angle of the spokes is odd and they give the impression they're protruding out. All I see when I look at them is a five clawed crab rather than a racy wheel.

Porsche comes out with good looking new wheels all the time. And a few bad ones. Not everything Porsche craps out is gold.
The wheels on the new Cayenne are awful save for one of them, but it only comes in 22's, which look like clown car wheels on a vehicle that size. Porsche should always offer at least one 20" solid five spoke wheel option on all of their models and then go crazy with the rest.
