My source "the cleaning lady" says that she has heard talks of a 4.0L for the street car with less redline then the 3.8L clubsport.
She also heard PDK for this car because it is a superior transmission with less warranty headaches.

This was all light chit chat overheard after hours while she was taking out the trash of course....

Did the new Clubsport maintain the 7800 RPM redline?

wow - well I'm hoping pdk only with lower redline. I'll save some money that way.

Engine, definitely naturally aspirated, no further details for the moment. Manual and PDK available apparently...

Yes it is, so according to TCRacing's cleaning lady the new street 718 GT4 will have lower redline than the 981.

The possibility of a larger displacement engine coupled with a lower redline in the Gen 2 Vs Gen 1 brings me back to all the forum discussions in my Honda S2000 days with the AP1 vs AP2

I'm hoping the lower redline we are hearing is based off the GT3 redline and not the prior GT4.

@tcsracing1 made it pretty clear that it was relative to the 2019 GT4 Clubsport.

They still complain about it.

Yes, we still do! As an AP2 driver, I wish it retained the 9k redline! Still, S2000 is more fun to drive than the Spyder at low speeds and sheer joy of redlining through bottom three-four gears!

As for the 982 redline, someone already posted here (and, on Spyder thread) that he saw a Spyder dash on the production line with tach showing 8k! That is, starting at 8k. To me, it's a credible evidence of what to expect. Cleaning ladies' whispers could be a smoke screen. Trying to keep people talking up and excited!

Forgive me. I am not excited by speculation and endless circling of same guesses.
I check this thread hoping for “real” info.

I realize some enjoy the guessing game. I’m not one of them.
I want facts so I can plan. Do I keep or do I get next gen?
I won’t decide until I have facts.

I agree. You shouldn't decide either way until the official announcement. In fact, personally, I wouldn't let the 981 go until after I have had the 982 for a period of time. I want to be able to drive them back to back for a good period of time before deciding which one to keep.

It appears the regulatory requirements and uncertainty from number of variables make this particular powertrain conversation rife with speculations from all sorts of sources.

If the car has a 4.0L engine, it would pretty much have to come with a lower redline than the 3.8L, given that they aren't going to give the GT4 more than 425hp or so. Otherwise, it would feel very breathless up in the rev range.

So, since someone actually seen the tach showing 8k, it might be 3.8? I would rather have 8k over any engine size, with power peaking near the redline!
