The GT4 was the first GT car that began the separation between what Porsche considers a "drivers car " and hardcore, street legal track car. It will always be special for that reason although they made a bunch of them . I never wanted one but will never sell the one I own as it is one of the best cars I have ever owned and I am an "old guy " as defined elsewhere on this forum.
The 2, 3 and upcoming 4 RS are the track specific cars. The T's , Touring's etc are the '"drivers cars " w the manual option, less severe ride, etc.
If the gt4 and spyder are too " hard " opt for a gts or s of either the mid engine or rear engine platform you prefer.
Whatever you choose drive it like you stole it and in good health...
Why though? It's not like the GT3 touring is a different model. It's just an option. No reason they can't offer the same with the GT4.
Come to think of it, they could offer Touring as an option for the Spyder too. Just like GT3 Touring is an option for a wingless GT3, so could Spyder Touring be an option for a humpless Spyder with an auto-top. I remember when a wingless GT3 was thought of as an abomination.
Interesting that they specifically mention the weight savings counters the addition of the particulate filter. I know it has been said that NA cars will not have it, but all the press releases continue to indicate all cars will include this. Really curious what the outcome will be.
The new WLTP testing and Euro 6 emission standards do not apply to NA cars. Like BMW, particulate filters are only fitted to Euro and Asia market cars. The new M2 Competiton has particulate filters in Euro/Asia markets, but not in NA markets. The OPF’s are expensive. If Porsche can save money not putting them on thousands of vehicles, they will not fit them if they don’t have to. The Cayman T and Boxster T press release today was for Euro markets. Go to Porsche Press website, choose USA, the T is not listed under lastest product news.
Rumors? More like unrealistic wishful thinking from those with dog-whistle hearing that totally ignored the precedent Porsche set with the 911T. No way Porsche was going to go NA on a Cayman/Boxster T.
Oh how this same statement could be applied to a 4.0L naturally aspirated engine appearing in the 718 GT4!
I more and more think "Touring" was a very unfortunate name on a wingless, M/T only GT3 with a unique cloth on the seats... There are NO differences on a part no level in the chassis between Wingey and Touring (some people checked in PET).
A "GT4 Touring" would, following the same concept, be a GT4, just w/o the wing. It is already M/T only (unless that changes in 718).
I still maintain my view that the wingless GT4 that was filmed around the Ring sounded clearly N/A 6 and M/T, but now we know it wasn't the 718T.
