Default New 981 CS

I'm purchasing a new, to me, 981 GT4 Clubsport. I would appreciate any advice members would care to share regarding best practices for the car. My intended use is spirited HPDE driving, not racing.

For instance, frequency of oil changes? Specific oil suggestions? Same for transmission fluid.
I thought I'd use Motul 660 brake fluid.
Any "must do" or strongly suggested mods? Headers? Intake? Tune? Any specific brands considered the best?

Anything important I've neglected to ask?

Thanks for your thoughts

If your car still has the original catted manifolds I would plan for headers sooner than later. The OEM manifolds are prone to failure and 981's are ~7 years old now. A cat failure is a nuisance but even worse they can crack on track and dump hot exhaust into the engine bay causing extensive damage to wiring and fuel lines. Get whatever headers are available and fit your budget.

Does your car have a regular tank or a fuel cell?

And heat shields for the headers.

I would suggest register with PMRSI site. just need the VIN and some basic info. I don't know what 981 info is available, but for 718 there is a lot of useful material including the Tech manual, parts catalog, software, etc. Congrats on the car too!

^^This... I learned the hard way. If you do not have accurate trustworthy service records indicating recent foam replacement or at least inspection, just bite the bullet and have it replaced immediately. My shop recommends replacing the foam every 2 years no matter what (if you store the car with fuel in it). If the foam starts to degrade it reeks havoc on the fuel system. The cost to replace the foam is way lower than the cost and down time to clean and recondition the entire system!

I went the hard route of changing the fuel cell foam after the high pressure pump on the engine clogged and it was more expensive as sonorous noted.

Here’s a starting list to consider, by no means complete:

fuel cell foam, inspect bladder
half shafts, repack grease and replace boots as needed
rebuild brake calipers, replace rotors as needed
inspect test shocks, rebuild as needed
headers and heat shields
plugs and coils

oil & filter change mid season and end of season for DEs. Motul for me, use what you like.
brake fluid flush beginning and mid season for DEs. Castrol SRF for me, use what you like.
PDK - clutch - differential fluid change end of each season. The last owner replaced the PDK 300 miles before he sold it so I’m ok for now.

If the car has an aftermarket tune I would consider reverting to the base tune. Solved some weird problems for me. I don’t need the extra power for DEs. Nice yes. Needed no.

CaymanR99 has a good list to start. Add hub/bearing replacement every 5k miles. PDK oil, clutch and diff oil at least once per year, engine oil after every weekend (VERY CHEAP INSURANCE). These cars love fresh fluids. Flywheel replacement every 7k(ish) miles. This helps prolong the life of the PDK trans.

Headers and SRO window intakes (no tune) will get you close to the power of stock 718s. Not quite there but close, IMO.

Sounds like I need to preventatively replace my fuel cell foam.

If you're going to do it yourself, learn and search these forums. I believe Chris Lewis put out a service interval recommendation spreadsheet out at some point. Otherwise, find a shop that has tons of experience with these cars. European Performance Specialists (Bela) is an awesome shop in CT. Or Autoquest in Florida are the only two shops I have direct experience with.

Default Thanks for all this input

Thank you to all for the ideas.. I hope more will follow.
TrackD, do you, or does anyone, have a specific oil recommendation? What's an SRO intake? Any headers o.k.? Where does one get the heat shields?

There is a Porsche Motorsport intake kit that was sanctioned for SRO but it is expensive and possibly tough to source. Once you drive your car for a long session on a hot day you will understand the want for more cold air. Or you could just get this for equal performance gain: https://teambgb.com/pages/carbon-fib...ke-kit-981-718

I am not sure but I think Clubsports have the heat shields already. They are relatively low cost in any case. https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...kaAhLZEALw_wcB

Common header suggestions are Cargraphic, Soul, Dundon and Fabspeed. I have Dundon because they were the only ones I could find in stock when my cats failed. Dundon is fantastic but also the most expensive. 981's are eargasm with headers!

The previous owner of my car used Motul 300V 5W-40 so I have continued with the same. My mechanic says it is hands down superior over Mobil 1.

Default New to me 981; brake pads?

Any thoughts on best pads for 981CS pads? Car came with Performance Friction rotors, and I presume pads?
Anyone tried G-Loc? I've had good luck with them for other cars. Thanks

Brembo RE-10 compound are good. Easier on the rotors than PFs. You need to try a few compounds to see what is the best compromise for you.

Pads are personal preference. I actually like the PFC pads from PMNA. They are cheap, the endurance pads are thicker and I like the modulation and feel from them.

Part numbers when ordering from PMNA (A variant is sprint pad, B variant is endurance pad):
