Default Engine fan failure 718 clubsport

We were running at Daytona this weekend and on Friday developed a strange error on the cosworth dash. The error was a engine fan failure in yellow.

Within a few phone calls we were able to speak with a tech at Porsche Motorsports and they told us this was a common failure of the motors that blow air past the engine in the engine bay. He said there were some software issues but occasionally there was just rubber from the track that binds the fan blades.

We removed the engine cover with a few torque screws and found the driver side fan was bound with rubber debris. The error immediately resolved after our good friends at bgb racing helped us reset the code. Thanks again Hector.

It turns out there is a kit you can buy from Manthey which allows you to change the screens to an easier location and we will look into this.

I plan to install these on my CS even if I have to make them myself.

Should of, would of, could of installed the screens. I got the fan failure light this weekend at Sonoma. Track rubber in the intakes. I'll have new Screens installed by SP Motorsports this Tuesday morning. Thanks again SP Motorsports for your track side support.

During last oil change and taking off all of that damn underbody, I wrapped the front surface of the bay fan where the rubber pieces wor getting sucked in with soft screen material on both sides of the car. This way the efficiency of the cooling fan is mildly affected but the air intake air volume is not restricted. I was told that the screen at the intake side port may restrict air intake and reduce power. Nothing scientific but this keeps intake air out of equation.

It worked without overheating or issue at vir last month, will see at mid Ohio this weekend.

ACI Road Atlanta installed the Manthey screens. Seems to kick out the scoops a tiny bit in the back but no real issues.

These are the side air intakes you all are referring to?

Yes. One section feeds the intake the other the engine fans.

I just replaced the burned out fan yesterday, easy as they just pop out. Found a small piece of track rubber lodged between the housing and blades. I installed the Manthey screens to keep this from happening agin. You will need to pop off the lower rocker/side air intake panels to install these. I had to mod the plastic intake ducts a bit to allow for screen thickness. The good news is the FAN FAIL light is out.

I am sure that took care of the gap in the back I was referring to. Good extra care job….
