As indicated in the thread, Porsche AG earlier revealed two of the models of the 2025 992.2. As a long term Porsche owner, the new GTS is beyond my expectations as a T-Hybrid sports car. The base Carrera is just a nice new Model Year (MY) rendition of the existing 992.1. As a side note, we just took delivery of a 2024 992.1 (April 25 @ Werks 4 in Zeffenhausen), and we could comfortably live with either MY of the Carrera.
However, I do have some liimited comments associated with the introduction and its video. With Porsche AG making a number of present options standard on both the base 2025 Carrera and the 2025 Carrera GTS, the two different MSRP points are really going to jump by thousands of dollars. I have yet to get into the Configurator to learn the extent of the increases in the respective base MRSPs. It is also not clear to me from the video if the 2025 Carrera (the red cab in the video) retained the 3.0L twin turbocharged engine (it did ... I checked another source), with the standard PDK eight speed. The 2025 GTS (grey couple) now has a 3.6L, with the new electrical assisted single turbo (see comment below), and a highly modified PDK (with a built in electric motor), with no mention in the video of how many forward gears it has. I assume eight, with the top two gears being overdrives. As an aside, the drag race in the introduction video is stupid, but Porsche AG wanted to make the point of how fast the new electrical assisted turbo in the 2025 GTS spools up. The electrical system is also completely different in the GTS; it has a 400 volt battery, which Porsche calls a traction battery (thus the GTS is a T-Hybrid). Like others have noted, one has to fear what the replacement cost of that particular battery will be down the road.
Somewhat controversial in design are the 2025 GTS' front radiator vertical slats in the larger openings under the headlights, which can close partially or close completely depending upon the operational cooling demands. Note that the 2025 Carrera does not have that front fascia design, and both models have more black 'plastic' in their front facia, while the 2024 992.1 with the SportDesign front fascia has more body paint. Porsche AG seems to like to move the exhaust pipes around every couple of MYs, as on the GTS model has again moved the tail pipes more to the center of the rear bumper.
I also believe that the matrix LED headlights (trouted in the video) are not yet approved by USDOT, so their full operation will be crippled in the US (all or just parts of the matrix are used). Some early buyers of that particular option have used the European version PIWIS (dealer issued factory computers) to fully activate the LED headlights in North America.
Lastly to me, having an electric motor assist (EMA) on a red hot turbo assembly on the 2025 GTS seems like a recipe for a part failure, unless the EMA is heat isolated in some manner, using non-conductive ceramic-type connection parts. Time will tell on that assembly.
The 2025 GTS, as a T-Hybrid, is an exciting development IMHO. But early buyers/owners of the 2025 GTS may be doing some additional "field reasearch and development work," which I would not care to chance and sign up for in the first year of this model. The 992.2 Carrera is a nice contnuation of of the 992.1 Carrera, and one either will warm up to the fasica changes, and the push buttom starter, or disparage those features as a reason not to consider the 2025 MY. Just the view of an old timer.
