Default Would you buy from....

Hey all,

I've located a 2012.5 911 base that's loaded out - it has every single thing I've been looking for. Color, interior, wheels, PSE etc. It looks like it was bought at auction by a small used car dealer and is now for sale there. They are happy to have a PPI done at a mechanic of my choosing. (It's located in NYC but was a CT car for it's life). Would you buy from a small lot like this assuming the PPI comes back clean? The car *looks* to be in great shape from pictures. Thanks everyone!

I'm always leery of small dealers as the buyer truly has not a clue about the car's history and neither does the seller. OTOH, a thorough PPI should disclose any major problems but boy would I be extra sure my PPI shop knew what they were doing.

Good luck,

Eddie

Prior to this car dealer picking it up, it was last sold about a year and a half ago as a Porsche CPO vehicle. Is that a good sign?

CPO history is a modest good sign. It means that at the time of inspection and sale, it had nothing significantly wrong (assuming a complete and honest inspection), but still could have had panels repaired or repainted, or mechanical issues repaired. I would be concerned about the history since then. How many miles since the CPO sale?

Best I can tell is about 4,000 miles in 6 or so months.

IMHO CPO means nothing more than a 2 year extension to the factory warranty.

Take a look at the attached doc for what passes as CPO. And remember, a tech can "miss" (wink, wink) something or flat out not see it and not record a problem.

Nothing will replace a test drive, your eyeballs and a thorough PPI and I'll take provenance over options all day long.

Good luck,

Eddie

I'll pass - it was sold at auction, so who knows what happened between the time it was certified and now...there are plenty of other options out there.
