Default New guy intro and question

Hi Porsche lovers !

Couldn't find a separate Intro section on this board, so posting my intro in general discussion.

My name is Patrick and I live in Spain.

I bought my first Porsche in 1990, an '87 944 2.5 beautiful silvergrey with Targa roof. It was the perfect car with 2 small kids and a lot of space for shopping in the back. Then over the next 5 years, the kids starting growing... and you guess the rest : bye bye 944 .

For my 50th birthday, my wife rented me a 911 for a weekend away and I told her she shouldn't have done that, because I got the taste again for a Porsche .

So I waited until we moved to Spain, and 2 years ago I bought a 2009 997 4S Cabrio with PDK. Wow...what a car !

I had the Sport mode retrofitted on it (without the chrono) and next step in a few months will be a sport exhaust. IMO even a 997.2 4S misses some more brutal sound.

Question : anybody has experience with difference between the Porsche PSE and third party brands (Fabspeed, Fister, etc..) ? Note : I know about the Gundo hack, although it would result exactly in the sound I'm loooking for, I don't want to wake up my neighbours !

and to end : a happy 2017 to all !

Welcome to the forum Patrick! Fantastic car you picked up as well. The 997.2 is my personal favorite generation of 911, and you have quite the optioned model!

I have quite a bit of experience between the Porsche PSE and our exhaust components for your car, what questions do you have?

Hi John,

First of all : best wishes for 2017 and thanks for your response.

A few questions for you to answer, or to confirm, sorry if some of them would belong to "Fabspeed for Dummies" department, I'm only a Porsche lover, not a Porsche mechanic :-)

Fabspeed Carrera Carbon Fiber Competition Intake System
SKU:FS.POR.9972.COMPAI

My car is a 2009 997.2 4S PDK cabrio with retrofitted sportmode (Porsche OEM Part number: 997 044 903 02)

1. The fact that it's a 4S and PDK is no problem to install the Fabspeed air intake, correct ?
2. I've seen 2 videos on how to install this yourself, aside from unplugging a few connections, being careful, a few basic tools and following instructions, it doesn't really require a professional mechanic, or a visit to Porsche centre, does it ? Simply unplug and disassemble original airbox, mount Fabspeed intake, plug everything back in and leave the tube on the side. DONE ! yes ?
3. oil filters : seen pics on the net of the airintake filters in blue, burgundy, silver .....can the color be chosen when passing the order to Fabspeed ?
4. Europe distributor : can't seem to find a European distributor selling the intake, unless it's an online shop who's in fact just an intermediary between car woner and Fanspeed, so still have the customs clearance to handle). Do you know if there are any available units in stock with european distirbutors. If not, not really an issue, have done european imports before, so I know the drill when it comes to buying from the States.
5. heat issue : As I live in Spain, overall nice climat in the year, but in summer we can have a heatwabe of up to 40° C (104° F) in my area. does the fact that the intake is not in a box connected directly to the rear airvents change anything ? I do understand the Fabspeed filters receive air from the vents anyway, but perhaps less than through original fittings ?
6. Is there a Porsche-approved certificate with this ?
7. Any downsides to mounting this ?
8. do you have a before/after video sound of just the air intake ? I can only find before/after vids with the intake and muffler system together.

As I said, some Q' answers are probably obvious to many people, but to some of us mere mortals who are just drivers and occasional DIY'ers, your answers may be important.

Thanks for taking the time to answer this.

Regards,

Patrick

Hello Patrick,

Happy New Year! Lol no worries, an educated decision is the best decision and i'm happy to help

1. Your 997.2 model and transmission have no play in the fitment of our intake.
2. It is a pretty simple installation, maybe 45minutes? The videos i've seen are pretty on point, and we actually have a full instruction manual on the product page on our website to help as well.
3. All the Competition Intakes come with a silver/gray dry filter. No oil, just rinse with some soapy water and let it dry. Very easy maintenance.
4. All our products drop ship directly from our facility whether you order it from us or from an online distributor. That being said, by ordering through me directly I can put some paperwork through to minimize any customs fees
5. The filters are located right up next the the air vents and has a heat shield to minimize heat soak coming from the engine. We have plenty of happy customers using the intake in hot climates, it gets over 100degrees around here as well.
6. As far as i'm aware there is no such thing as a Porsche approved certificate, so no it does not have that.
7. No downsides that i'm aware of, perhaps less fuel economy as you'll be putting your foot down more to here the sound as it crests 4500rpm haha.
8. I do not have a before/after but I do have an after install video on a 997.1 that is pretty good
