The Highway Loss Data Institute rates 297 passenger vehicles by their relative rates of loss due to injury and collision, with a score of 100 being average. A score of 122 is 22 percent worse than average, while a score of 90 is 10 percent better than average.

According to this report, the safest car is the Porsche 911 with a jaw-dropping score of 38. That's a whopping 62% better than average, and better than any sedan or minivan. The safest sedans are the the Buick LeSabre (43), Mercedes E class (44), Mercedes S class (45), BMW 7 Series (46), and the Lexus LS430 (49). Some other popular cars are: Honda Odyssey (56), Toyota Sienna (70), Honda Accord (100), and Toyota Camry (105).
The safest vehicle overall is the GMC Yukon XL 2WD (20) and the most dangerous vehicle is the Suzuki Esteem sedan (272).
So is the Porsche 911 really the world's safest car, or is it merely the world's most garaged car?

Probably a meaningless stat for many cars for a lot reasons, the biggest reason IMHO is that patterns of use vary widely.
For example, many more 911's are Sunday cars driven under Ideal conditions. How many Porsche 911 drive thru rush hour traffic, drinking coffee while shaving - some I'm sure- but not nearly the same percentage that do it in a Camry.
How many 911's drive thru the Mall parking lot with kids fightning in the back seat distracting the mother.
The scenarios go on and on.

I had an interesting conversation with an insurance salesguy. I was looking into getting an XK8 as an everyday. Insurance cost was much higher than the 993 and the car value is actually less! According to him 993 were not involved in car crashes as much as XK's...
Could be better drivers, less miles, sunday drivers. Draw your own conclusions.
