Just finished a Go-Kart Mini Grand Prix event in Canada. This is one fun sport. Does anyone else engage in this activity? This is a picture taken of me racing to take a trophy in a Charity fund raising tournament that my company entered last weekend. Our staff got a kick out of it.

Karting enjoys wide popularity across the country.
I have friends who race 90MPH shirter karts, very trick set-ups, and handling that makes my 951 green with envy. I was close to buying a kart a few years ago, but decided to try remote control aircraft instead. Now I wish I had raced.
The beauty of karting is that you can race cheap, there are many classes of karts, and some karts are cheap enough to buy 2 and just putt around with friends in the parking lot late on Sunday afternoons. I have seen karts from 5HP to over 100HP. (Although a kart with a 600cc Yamaha motorcycle engine is pushing the definition of kart a bit far, more like "NASA test vehicle".)
When I was a kid, one of the local guys dad's built about 5 wicked carts with 7.5HP lawnmower engines. All tube steel he bent himself. They were about 8 inches wider at the front than the back, and would do the most excellent flat spins. After a kid impaled his chest onto a bumper hitch ball, the karts made a sad farewell into childhood lore. Racing them around the streets all summer is a great memory.
I have been toying with the idea of building one myself, just to see if i can. I might even bust out the old vacuum board, and make some fiberglass fairings and flares, lol.
Wow, and I saw a 125cc dirt bike for sale for $100 bucks the other day with a bent rim. I dont need a dirt bike, but a 125cc geared go-kart would be too sweet. Imiagine gettign a ticket for speeding on a kart, haha.
I need to sleep I think, lol.

I run a 125 MPH 6 speed shifter kart twice a week to stay in shape for big car racing (IMSA/Gran-d-Am)...
They are incredible. Really helps inmprove driving. They pull almost 3 g's (so I have been told)...

I run a 2002 Birel Motorsport with SwedeTech 125 Honda water cooled race engine (2-stroke)...

I just recently took a ride on some JB Karts out of Belgium. These were 9 HP Honda powered karts running on an indoor track. They required a lot of attention and concentration to pull good laps. The place I went was inside on old warehouse. Last night they were running a 3 hour enduro.....these guys were running 2 seconds faster than I did on a 900' course. I'm a pretty agressive driver, but these guys were really working those karts. This sport seems to be growing in popularity and at $15.00 for an 8 minute session, sounds like it may be quite profitable as well!
Anybody else have experience with these type of places?

The best one I have attended here in the UK is Daytona Racing at Milton Keynes. They have a 1400metre or so outside track, with all the extra challenges that this entails. I last went there about 3 years ago, and it was in a different league to this indoor stuff. We used twin engined karts which could (potentially)reach 70mph on the straights...with my 230lbs in it I guess it was struggling to hit 55...!doh! that sort of speed feels very fast when you are 12mm off the ground...
