In '72 as soon as the college graduation ceremonies were over we headed out to the CanAm race at Mosport.
The dominant orange McLarens, sounding like the hammers of hell, with the 454 Chevy V8s were being run down by a blue and gold "whoosh" in it's first race. Jackie Stewart was there also, driving a Lola like a madman but lacking the equipment to compete.
The Penske 917/30 pulled out early with a stuck wastegate or something ( they didn't want to blow it up first race), but came back to take over the series that year. By the next year 1/2 the cars were 917s, 2-3 years later the series was gone due to high expenses.
A great memory and a great car.

I've never driven one, but if lap times were my penultimate goal, then a GT2 or GT3RS would have to be it.
If looks, driving experience and heritage were what I was after, a lightweight Carrera RS would be my choice.
And personally, I'd rather have a 550 kit car (like a Beck with a flat 6 in it) than the real thing. I'd have more fun knowing I wasn't driving something that was as rare and irreplaceable as an actual 550. I think the Beck 904's are great for the same reason.
Full race cars are another story.

There is something about the 962 that intrigues me... maybe its the fact that it can keep up with modern day drag racing cars in the 1/4 mile (6.2sec), yet be able to do it all day long... the 962 is still one of the fastest quarter mile times in the world, and it used to do it all day at le mans, and i am sure it handles absolutely beautifully.... Just something about that car...

I must agree w/Colm "The one you own!" And for me, it's an '84 911 M-491 Carrera Coupe. A "street version" of the '74 RS 3.0, w/ a normally asperated 3.2 plus a Turbo-Look body, revised suspension, type 917 brakes and Turbo Fuchs wheels/tires!
The Crosby, Stills and Nash song lyrics really ring true: "Love the one you're with..." I've had this car for the last six years and like it more every day. It's been my extreemly reliable daily driver the whole time. Basically stock with minor, but easily reversable, mods has been a real pleasure to drive. A classic 930/911 rich in racing heritage with great 'Turbo-Looks' and no turbo hassels...
As I once heard it said: "Don't laugh, it's the ONLY one I have..."
