The German word 'Gmund' is pronounced as one syllable, with every letter audible. The sound of the 'u' vowel is in the standard German way, but unfortunately this doesn't exist in standard english (although it does in some dialects) so it is hard to describe.
It rhymes with the German word 'Hund', if that helps

Actually the town is not called Gmund, but Gmünd it's somewhere near Kärten.
Which means if you want to pronounce it really right, well I can't type it out for you ... but that would be the german word.

ive heared it pronounced on documentaries like
"p.a." or maybe its p.a/h. somthing like that... man i know how to say it, but so hard to do fo-net-ik-ly
isnt the G in Gmünd silent? i always thought it sounded and sounded like moo/nd (not to be confused with mooned) or maybe its a real short fast sounding G like ge'moond (but rushed and smashed up all together.... im just guessing

As a general rule, every letter is pronounced in German.

As a rule, the ü is also written ue when you can't find the key! as such, you could say Gmünd is pronounced g-muend. keep the letters short, and you can't go far wrong.
As for the lovely Mr Piech, (i can't find that accent on my keyboard either), i think it's something like pe-etch.

The 'ch' letter combination is a softer sound than the english 'ck' but there is no english equivalent sound that I can think of to help with that one. If you know the correct pronunciation of the German word 'ich', then you know what I'm talking about.
(Assuming it is a German name) 'Piech' would be pronounced as one syllable, not two, like the english word 'peach' except that there is the same soft 'ch' sound at the end.

Graham, I would agree, but i'm sure that Piech has a french grav accent over the e. Don't ask me why...........
And Weissach is vyss-ack. Loadsa sssssss means it can't sound like a short z.
