Post Collector license plates

It appears that California is a lot more lenient towards what it feels is a Collector car than British Columbia does:

<img src="http://www.rgruppe.org/Images/KurtExhaust.jpg" alt=" - " />

My car's not eligible for Collector plates here because it wears a set of 15" Fuchs from a 911, instead of the 14" Fuchs that were an option for my 912 in 1969... of course, all of suspension and engine mods might have something to do with it too but just look at the car pictured above!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Dammit, I'm moving to California!

hmmm lets compare asses

<img src="http://members.aol.com/woodstk699/images/mein%20912.jpg" alt=" - " />

damn that thing looks so much meaner than mine
hard to believe they arent that far off body wise (relativly i should say)
oh btw thats my old plates. i now have ohio historical plates.

dave,

the wheels should not matter. any option available to the 911 was available to the 912, for the right amount of $$. dont you have the original steelies? just slap those on for your inspection or whatever they do up there! hell youre not gonna get pulled over for the wheels when you switch back to the fuchs after inspection (or whatever). hell for that matter im suprised theyre not saying thing about your T4 engine. if you dont have the correct stealies, buy some crappy or cheep 911/2 stealies, just for that purpose, cheep tires too. you wont drive on em so it wont matter. also.. youll be saving a load of money on insurance registration etc by goin with historical tags, so its not like this would put you out alot of cash just to get historicals.
btw i have ohio historical plates.. can only drive to events or for rutine mantenence (or quick sunday drives to make sure it runs fine). so not as often as id like. (i dont know how they go aboot regulations up there in canada eh.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> )

BTW... youre running 7x15's? what have you done? been asking on here and on the 912 bbs all last week, and it looks like i cant do it. (wanted to go with some classic 7x15 bbs basket weave to get the look of the 70's & 80s style racing bbs wheels.)

oh and isnt that one hell of a picture up there? my highest complements to the rgruppe.. that is one bad ***. (isnt it a 912R? or does it just have R tail lights?)

beside you dont wanna move to cali. too many people, too much b.s too put up with and too many emitions laws. you should move to nevada or arizona. dry, no rust, always warm and nice, close to cal, but not too close to put up with crap!

I have to second Harry's opinion.....It's not worth moving to California for any reason!!!
I just "escaped" after living there all my life.
OK place to visit(for a day or two) but not to move there for a license plate! The ONLY thing I miss about LACALIFUSA is seeing cars like the RGruppe beauty. WOW!!!!!!
Cheers to All, Robert

I have a feeling that if it's 14" vs 15" wheels that are the problem that the 14's won't fit around the brakes! Why is the DOT more "retentive" than a vintage sanctioning body? I would think that age would make it "historic" or "collectible" and that the restrictions on driving would discourage people from trying to make their beater a collector car (hmm, would that work on my Jetta??)

As long as we're in the "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" kind of mood, here's my ***:

<img src="http://gallery.rennlist.com/albums/Wind/912e.jpg" alt=" - " />

As for what's original on my car, I have no idea how the DOT could possibly know what was and what wasn't available for a 1969 912! They have recently introduced a modified category for Historic vehicles but the year cut-off is 1940! I suppose that this makes the Hot Rod guys happy but where does that leave us? BC is really picky about the originality of Historic cars and even little details like radios and white wall tires are considered. One thing's for sure, a blind person could easily see that my car sits a tad low for a "stocker"...

as for ride height, WOW!.. i knew it was really low, and from all the pics ive seen i could tell it was really really low.. but compair your *** to my ***... god damn thats low! <img border="0" alt="[oops]" title="" src="graemlins/oops.gif" />

what the heck heres another comparison... (AND YES IM RUNNING THE 14 INCHERS... they look damn good, real pretty polished chromers, but all show, and no go.. tire roll.. gettin 15's with some michelin pilot's as soon as i scrape enoug money)

Well, ballet dancers move quite fluidly on their tippy-toes...

I bet mine would go over well with the lowrider set! Where can I source some dingo ***** and wire-spoke wheels?

dont forget chain steering wheel, leapard print seat covers (the real fuzy kind!) or even better the pink fuzzy kind! also add the fuzzy die to the mirror.

then you'll need to get a gold tooth, and a pimp out fit!

Have you looked into Year of Manufacture tags/laws? For example, here in Florida if you car is over 30 years old, and you can obtain a real Florida tag that is in good condition, you can send it to Tallahassee for verification (genuine, in good enough shape to be read by law enforcement, etc), you can register wtih it as a vanity plate.

So next year after my restore job is done on my 356, I can put the '65 tag I have (thanks eBay!) on it and register it for less than $10 extra per year.

I live in Ohio, and the criteria for "Collector" plates was more the Make and Model Year of the car as well as proof that it was not my primary transportation.
I have a 1984 928 which wasn't even on their list of exotics, but I spoke to a clerk at the local registrar's office showed them the title for my daily driver and, they filled out the form and mailed it to the capitol.
One beautiful aspect of the Collector status in Ohio is no emissions testing requirement!
