Post Floor jack - Aluminum racing or DK20Q ?

I am looking to purchase a quality floor jack and read the achieves.

If I am spending about $200.00 - why would I purchase a DK20Q compared to a Aluminum racing jack by US General ? Weight is important to me, as well as safety.

Thanks.

Hi mo,

I just ordered a DK20 (no Q, from reading, since the jack is not super long, the quick lift pedal is of rather limited use) yesterday for $215 + shipping.

I was seriously considering the US General Aluminum jack as well, but here were some strikes I compiled against it:

1) It's sold at Harbor Freight. Now, I'm not bashing them by any means, and I own quite a few items from them (I have a store only 15 minutes away), but the quality of their products matches the price. That being said, I'm not sure I want to gamble $200 on that jack. By the way, I did see it in person, they had one on display in the store, and it looked ok, but I haven't seen any other aluminum jacks to compare it with.

2) I believe the max lift height of that jack is 17 or so inches, versus aroud 20 inches for the DK20. The 3 inches might not seem like a big deal, but I didn't want to get suck with a $200 jack which only helped me get to the lowest settings on my jack stands.

3) The DK20 has a 5 year warranty.

I know there have been group buys on the DK20 a year ago, but I haven't seen any recently. It would have been nice to get it for $189 + shipping, or $200 shipped, but I couldn't wait much longer. $215 + shipping was the best price I found.

If you are interested in where I got the jack for $215, drop me an e-mail. I have absolutely no association with that place, just found the lowest price, and most reasonable shipping from them.

I just didn't want to post the name of the place because I haven't read over all the forum rules, and I don't want to get myself into trouble on my first post...

Sorry this got a bit long...

P.S. - has anyone ever looked at the Norco 71230 floor jack? That was a another one I was considering, but like just like AC Hydraulic, I was having trouble finding dealers who sold that jack.

I bought the aluminum racing jack from Harbor Freight and have been using it for about four months now. While the quality is questionable, I have had no problems with it.

I did read some disturbing stories about the jack but that was after I bought it (ie. someone bent the pole used to pump the jack).

My jack has been through two track events (Porsche), two oil changes (Porsche/BMW) and change on all four rotors (BMW). I was a bit hesitant on using it on the BMW since the weight allowance is only 3000lbs.

I'll see how long this jack holds out.

If weight is the issue..go with the aluminum jack.

If price is the issue..go with US General from Harbor Freight ($200).

If weight is not the issue..go with DK20Q.

If price is not the issue..go with aluminum racing jack other than US General.

Hope this helps.. <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />
