Exclamation Scandinavian Rennlisters - update

We seem to have around 20 so far, which is not a bad start!

I would like to create a small Scandinavian-specific Porsche website which would contain:

- local Porsche dealers, independent workshops and wreckers
- local third party suppliers of non-Porsche parts such as wheels, tires, racing brake fluid, etc
- information on tracks and track days
- where to buy 98 RON fuel
- recommended "driving" routes
- etc etc

and perhaps act as a central point to organise meetings, etc

My intention is NOT to duplicate something which already exists. Is anyone aware of any resource like this already in existence? For example, the Porsche Club Sverige website?

Hi Graham,

PCS Sweden is quite active. There are a bunch of events they organize. I am sure it would not be a problem for you to join.

I am sure fellow Rennlisters can point you to some nice roads i southern Sweden/Denmark. Here in Stockholm, should you have your 993 with you, I recommend the road between Bogesund and Waxholm, close to Stockholm. Great spot, not much traffic. Worth taking 2 hours of your schedule...

Nordic meeting site would be nice.

Graham,

is this only for Sweden,Norway,Denmark?

Finland may not be a part of Scandinavia, but Finland belongs to the Nordic countries.Finnish Porsche people are quite active and we have activities with swedish brothers allready.
Finnish official site can be found from http://www.porsche-club.fi
You can found active Porsche people in the Baltic countries too.

Olli,

I did not intend to exclude Finland or the other Baltic countries, though the wider the area you include, the less 'local' it becomes.

My intention was just to create a site specific to a small region where people can exchange all sorts of information which might be too irrelevant for Rennlist.

For example, "where to buy ATE Super Blue in Copenhagen?" is not a question people are likely to post on Rennlist, but trust me that product is not easy to find in Copenhagen, and that is the sort of information which people local to a specific area would benefit from sharing.

Does this make my idea any clearer?? Of course everyone who would make the effort to join a track day or other meeting would be welcome, whether they come from Norway, Finland, Estonia, etc

Graham,

good idea, if somebody keeps it alive and updated. Estonian Porsche Club members are very interested to participate track days in Finland and Sweden. There is no centralized info about these events. I checked out Porsche Sweden website and it is swedish indeed.

cheers from estonia

Jack,

I am willing to build, host and maintain the site, but only if there is sufficient interest!

So all you Nordic/Baltic/Scandinavian Rennlisters out there, please give me your feedback and ideas

I should add that the site would be in english, making it more widely accessible than any one Nordic/Baltic language.

Graham,
what comes to language, english is fine.It can also be swedish, since most people in Sweden/Denmark/Norway/Finland understand Swedish.

What comes to "tight local area" i suppose you are wrong.Take for example Sweden/Stockholm area. There are lot of P-car people there. Finland is closer to them than Copenhagen. Those ferries between Finland & Sweden are extreamly popular.
It's also easy to take a ferry to Tallin,Estonia. It just takes 1,5 hours to go "shopping" there! We have allready quite a lot activities between Swedish & Estonians.I can't say the same about Danish & Norweigans. We have discussed with Swedish 944 people about possibilty to meet either in Finland or Sweden next summer.I am sure lot of cars will come also from Estonia.
Since you are not originally from Danmark, i suppose you are not so familiar with Nordic co-operations?? The Nordic countries have kept together over 50 years. It would not be wise to separate P-car fans in such a way you have planned.Of course the choice is yours. We can have our own small activities here into which all Nordic & Baltic brothers are most welcome

[quote]I did not intend to exclude Finland or the other Baltic countries

BTW: Finland is not part of the Baltic countries

Olli,

I did say "Of course everyone who would make the effort to join a track day or other meeting would be welcome, whether they come from Norway, Finland, Estonia, etc"

However, there has been little expression of interest in a dedicated website (regardless of geographical boundaries) so far, so it may never happen

Perhaps a web site isn't a bad idea, but I'm thinking that maybe we could ask John D for a Scandinavian model-independent forum?

Thumbs up

I think it's a great idea and with time and some good initiatives at the start I am convinced you could get good traffic figures.
I say go for it

I thought of that, and of course it would be great just to go to a link here, except....

If we get one, everyone will want one. Every US state will want one, and then the Australians, New Zealanders, South Africans, etc will all expect one one too. You would probably end up having to create around 60-70 regions.

This could still work. Maybe there could be a 'Local regions' link in the menu taking you to a new menu of the 60 or so regions. I strongly believe there is a need to share local knowledge, and this would also be an ideal forum for Rennlisters to arrange local meetings rather than 'polluting' the global list with local questions/meetings.

How about it, John D?

I am currently going over this idea with John D offline.
The good news is that he seems to be in favour of regional forums (in principle)
