I'm a new member here. Just joined the other day in the effort to help a good friend sell his car (an acquaintance and Porsche fan told me about this site, and suggested I post a classified).
Anyway, I've been a Porsche fan my whole life, and I thought I'd share a story of THE ONE that got away.
The car (pictured below) was bought in Germany by a long time family friend of mine, picked up at factory and driven all over Germany & beyond, then shipped back to U.S. some time later. If memory serves me correct, it was an '86 Carrera Sport, a regular Carrera with the full Turbo treatment (body, interior, suspension, brakes, but sans engine). This car, however, was very special. It had some euro-specific exterior treatments, including side turn signals (orange) mounted in the front quarter panels, and you'll note the euro brake lamp adjacent to the exhaust. It also had a full leather interior in a custom orange-ish tone leather (I forget the exact name/code). Absolutely everything covered in the sumptuous hyde, direct from the factory. The car as a whole was, by far, one of the most beautiful vehicles I've ever had the pleasure to see, drive, or experience.
Anyway, its owner was a true collector and Porsche fanatic in every sense of the word. He had quite the collection, including a high 90's point Speedster, among other choice autos.
I had the good fortune of driving it on many occasions in its early years. Can't even begin to describe the sensation, especially since I was in my late teens at the time.
The car was destined for collection/storage for the better part of a decade or so, with occasional driving. It exchanged hands once many years later, to a friend of the original owner (and who I also knew very well, so it was kind of like staying in the family).
At one point, circa 2000 or so and a handful of years after college, I was in a position to buy the car and asked its new owner about it. He said holy smokes, what timing! It was on a car lot, on consignment. That was early in the week. I said I'd call back on Thursday or Friday and give a green light (or not) if I could swing the finances. On late Friday or Saturday (the exact timing is getting a little hazy after so many years), I called and said I'd take it, that it would be my honor to own it.
All sounded good, he said he'd contact the car lot owner (a well known Porsche tuning shop), and pull it off the market. It seemed like a done deal, and in a few days I'd fly back to CA and pick it up....but....
Due to some mixed communication and some INCREDIBLY weird timing, sure as heck, somebody came to the lot and bought the car the following morning!!! Somehow the message wasn't communicated to the shop owner or manager to pull the car in time, and lo & behold, it was GONE! Nooooooo!!!!!!!
I guess it just wasn't meant to be. But man oh man, I lamented this for a long time, and still do.
If any of you out there know whoever bought this car at Pristine Porsche up in Huntington Beach circa '00, or see it driving along the SoCal coast, please know you have a wonderful, history-filled amazing car. Here's what it looked like a few months after it was purchased and finally brought back to the states.
Cheers. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed the story.

Very cool story, I would love to see more pics if they are available
Kinda falling in love with the the Panamera. In stock form not so much but looking at a few modded ones they are definitely growing on me
Lastly I know these are kit cars and somewhat blasphemous but still hawt in my opinion none the less

Jordan I do have more but they are tucked away in a CA garage somewhere in a photo album. This is the only scanned photo I have handy. Next time I'm out there traveling (I live on east coast), I'll do my best to get them.
I've often thought about searching that car out, but then I defer to the "fate" thing. If it was meant to be, it was meant to be. About 3 years or so ago when I lived out there, I thought I saw it headed south on PCH in Newport Beach. Did a double take, but it was gone.
I would venture a guess that there are very few, if any, like it in the U.S. The likelihood of an exact interior spec, in a euro-clad exterior that is fully U.S.-legal, is pretty slim. The car did have anodized & clear coated rims with matte black center.
I used to take care of it (detailing & so forth) for its original owner, hence why I know it so well.

Here are a couple more pics of that 550 spyder rep. Normally I would not ever rock reps, or knock offs but this may be one exception
Here is some old Porsche F1 pics, It would be awesome to see porsche get back into F1
