Default Can't believe my 911 didn't come with a locking gas cap

My 944 has a gas cap where it locks by itself and the key used is the same as the ignition key, awesome idea.

I couldn't believe my '04 911's gas cap is open to the whole wide world. When I got a spare key it cost me $400, ouch. Am I looking at the same price tag if I get a locking gas cap with a matching key?

When you lock the doors, the door to the filler cap also locks. No need for a locking gas cap. It's been that way since at least 1995 that I know of.

911's have had an inside gas flap release since the late 60's so there is no need for a locking gas cap on those models.

that **** that sticks through doesn't work. I can just push the side of the flap and it opens. a co-worker has the targa version of the 911 from the same year and has the same problem. even if it did work, that little know is so flimsy I dount it would take much to pop through it. the locking gas cap is a much more sound idea, possible to still get one?

Do you have a problem with gas being stolen on your area?
I dont think I ever locked a gas cap once on any 951/44 I owned.

not worried about the gas being stolen but very worried about neighborhood miscreants pouring stuff in the gas tank that shouldn't be in a gas tank

I am pretty sure on the 996/7 if you pry the gas door open the alarm goes off.

the stick that shoots through was being hindered by a rubber guide attachment. removed the rubber guide attachment and now the stick shoots all the way through and the gas cap lid doesn't open.

My 2004 996 TT's gas cap door won't open if car is locked.
