Judging from the lack of response to this poll, I am wondering if some are considering this trolling. Actually, I am a Porsche enthusiast and former owner. I am very excited by the styling of the Carrera GT, but cannot even begin to afford one. Hence, I would be thrilled if Porsche were to incorporate the GT styling cues into a more affordable model.
That's why I would be very interested to know how other Porsche enthusiasts felt about this. However, it doesn't appear we will get enough responses here to make any meaningful conclusions.
Perhaps, I should have started with something like "Do you prefer the styling of the Carrera GT or the current iteration of the 911?"

Yes, it seems like a trolling.
That said, most of us like our 911's to LOOK like a 911, thats part of what makes it special, recognizable and part of the history of the car and not looking like every other car on the road.
There are plenty of other Porsche models to own of a 911 is not your thing. I suspect you are in the minority among the 911 crowd.

That's a shame. I have gone to some effort to present a viable option and presented it in a non-judgmental way. I am truly interested in what a random sampling of Porsche enthusiasts would make of it.

If this was to be a later model of the Caymen I'd be stoked. But not to replace the 911 lines, that IMHO will never happen, too much history, too much brand loyalty due to its heritage. That's what makes the car.
Now, offer those body lines for $85k and i'm all over it like white on rice.

Since there is a reluctance to take up this question here, I decided to pose this question to another group of sports cars enthusiasts: http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f152...g-911-a-81159/
With a little help here and there, I believe I now have a better understanding of the issues at hand. It seems that we have a strong contingent of folks who prefer to keep the styling of the 911 relatively unchanged. For those who find the styling dated, Porsche is perhaps better off experimenting with more radical style changes to other models.

I now understand that many of you want Porsche to keep a true-to-its-roots variant of the 911 in its line up. But there are lots of us who love Porsches and would like to cut Porsche loose to build us something different, updated, and superior in performance to the restricted design of the 911 - and much less costly than a Carerra GT, of course. This shouldn't be treated as blasphemy.

There is a powerful marketing phenomena whereby especially men hold onto the passions their youth. If you loved the 911 as a boy/young man, as many of us did, chances are you may still love them into adulthood. The current version has been wildly successful as those of us who lusted for a 911 in the 70's, 80's, or earlier become old enough to be able to afford one.
However, if we are going to be honest, the current styling doesn't inspire a similar interest for today's youth. Clearly, I'm am speaking into a vacuum here. But just maybe someone at Porsche is listening and may realize that they need to produce something that inspires the next generation of Porsche enthusiasts.

These cars all look the same. Again, where's the excitement that is going to inspire the next generation of enthusiasts, as well as the large group of enthusiasts who are simply waiting for something new and interesting from Porsche.
The Panamera? It's a lot better than a Buick and you can pretend you're still a sports car guy.
A new 911? I believe we've already established that this car shouldn't deviate much from the past.
