Do you mean shipping a car from US? If so, it is a fairly easy process because the shipping company takes care of most paperwork. The most important thing is having the pink slip/title to show US custom you own the vehicle, no lien or not stolen.
Where you are shipping it to is a different story. Every country has different import taxes and laws.

Thanks for the responses. I need to ship a BMW from Korea to California. I assume I would first find a shipping company and then would I have to deal with the DMV once the car is here?

If this car is going to be driven on public roads, please make sure you will be able to make it US compliant as above poster said (before shipping it here):

"California has special requirements for vehicles imported from other countries (including Canada and Mexico). It may be very costly and in some cases impossible to modify these vehicles to meet California emission requirements and/or federal motor vehicle safety standards. For example, vehicles manufactured to be sold in Europe (gray market vehicles) less than two years old are not legal for registration or use in California."
Or if this car is for special purposes, here are some regulations:
