Question How to Do Long distance purchase

Good morning. I have found a car that will hopefully satisfy my lust for a P-car and have gone through much back and forth email with the CO. We have agreed on a price. The car is located across the country. How does this thing work? I will have the car shipped to me, but how do I conduct the transaction part of things? What is the safest way to do this?
Thanks in advance!

I flew out and drove mine back. Was the safest for me, and it was my first Porsche so I wanted to touch it before I bought. and drive it back meant 17 hrs and 1100 miles. YMMV.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, the seller backed out at the very last minute and so I'm still on the hunt. I considered doing that but the car was in Oregon and I'm in Philly, so the trip would have put more miles on the car (getting it here) than my insurance policy would have allowed me for the entire year. Happy holidays.

Sorry to hear - Here are my thoughs on a long distance purchase:

- Talk to the seller and get a feel for the way he most likely cared for the car
- come to an agreement on price "subject to a satisfactory PPI"
- ask an independent shop to do a Pre Purchase Inspection (compression, leak down and go over the car with a paint gauge to see whether pannels have been repainted). You can get regional shop recommendations on Rennlist
- you contract with the shop and the seller drops off the car
- shop communicates the findings in writing to you
- you confirm the deal and wire full payment
- have FedEx, Intercity, etc. ship the car to you

Good luck with the search!

Thanks Frank for your input. It would appear I have done all the things you suggested on the current car. it should be delivered Monday or Tuesday of this week. I feel like a Greatful Dead song; what a long strange trip it has been." Mostly, I'm hoping it will be worth it when she come down the ramp. I have to say that my mentor Niles92 held my hand throughout most of the process. Is this a great site or what?

The buying process can create anxiety, at times.

And the next stage is learning all the idiosyncracies of these great cars.
